Default Door locks unlock but won't lock?

I have a 2000 ss vert I have to lock the doors manually. They will unlock automatically but when I try to lock them the chime goes off double time. Haven't taken anything apart yet because I really don't know where to start. Any ideas?

If the Thingy you're talking about is the actuator I know how to replace them but they still unlock. You don't think it's an Electrical issue?

If it doesn't lock and it chimes at you, it is because it thinks the key is in the ignition typically. Mine would do that if I tried locking the doors with the keys in. However, it would also be chiming with the door open too (as it should) does yours do that?

I took the keys out of the ignition and it still did it I guess because the door was open. I just got a key fob today and haven't been able to program it so i've always had to have the door open to lock it. Thanks for your help.

+1 The chiming can happen for a number of different events. Are you trying to lock the doors when they are open or closed? The BCM can be set so that they won't lock when open. (You get the double chime instead.)

i rolled the window down and shut the door and it worked. I'm paronoid about my wiring because the previous owner had an electrical fire, but I've checked every inch of wire in the interior and everything seems ok. Now i'm having trouble with programming the keyless entry. I took out the radio fuse, turned the key from off to on 3 times leaving it in the on position the last time but the locks aren't cycling. any ideas on that?

BTW - You can change the behavior of the locks and doors open/closed by programing the BCM. There should be instructions on how to do that in the owners manual.

For the new remote, does the FCC ID printed on the back match your old one?

That's my main problem. I didn't get an owner's manual or an original remote. I bought a remote off e-bay. I was told it would work on any car.

Definitely not. What is the FCC ID: on the back of your new remote?

BTW - You can buy the original factory owners manual (English or in French) and the fancy portfolio it came in here: http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.a...elected_media=

They were all published by Helm and may not be available for much longer. (Some of the books for older models are going out of stock.)

That's the right one. Have you tried a fresh battery? Did you buy it used or new?

I bought it new, but my car isn't going into program mode. I've tried 2 or 3 different ways I've read on various sites, but the locks aren't cycling. Just wandering what methods you guys might have used.

I don't think it needs to be programed if it originally worked, my passenger door used to unlock and lock, now it only unlocks. Maybe the lock motor is on its way out?
