Default 2 12's in the trunk...suggestions?

2001 trans am

i currently have a JL 300/2 amp that's pushing my alpine type r 10 in a stealth box. It's not givin me the bass i used to have with my 2 12's so i wanna go back to 12's in the trunk dip angled to the hatback glass.

I don't do competitions or anything like that but i want to be able to have some bad *** bass when i want it there. I had some JL w0's before with the same 300/2 amp.

What are some suggestions for a set of 12's that will outperform these subs but on the same budget. Looking to stay < $100 a sub if possible.

also opinions on the 1000w audiopipe amp?

that is quite the clean install...i can't lie man and i know that sounds good but i prefer the box in the dip behind the hump...it just looks better and cleaner to me. your set up does look good as **** though man. I like that if i put my box in that rear dip i can just keep my sub hidden and dont have to worry about all the small details too

You don't need to go to 2 12"s. Go with a SSA Icon (or Fi Q) 12" in a 12" stealthbox from KEE Audio when he is able to start making them again, get a bigger amp, and you'll get plenty. Unless you're going for competitions where you'll push more volume than your ears could handle just so you can pretend to be cool (wow, a loud car that sounds like ****, good for you) then that setup would be perfect.

I had 2 12's before and they were loud...yes. but they sounded great. If i could have had a little more bass from the subs though my entire system would have greatly benifitted. I have quality door and sail panel speakers..but with my headunit, i have to keep the bass turned way down so the component speakers dont distort. this is why i want to go with 2 12's. It's easy to make a quick clean install and I was very happy with them before. I'd really just like to get some input on sub suggestions and the amp i found. thanks for your input

and as far as the stealth box goes...I just can't see a 12" sub being able to perform near full potential with that little air space. however the larger box to fit in the dip of the trunk provides plenty for most subwoofers

If I still had my Camaro, I would have been glad to prove you wrong. But if you think you really have too much space in the hatch then go for it.

go with the audiopipe... kee audio swears that it is a great budget amp and i trust him. there was a thread that me ad him were talking in. i was gonna get it but my jl 12w3's are loud enough with my alpine 450 watt amp right now. i have the subthump ttop box with the jl 12w3's. i only paid 200 bucks for both subs brand new (check craigslist for deals) and the ttop box for $100 with an amp and kenwoods that i sold for $100 bucks

My cheap *** Type E 12" puts out more bass than I would ever want it to. Why not try a bigger box?

A single 10" with a quality amp is all you need in an F-body... anything more is retarded.

There's not really any clean looking boxes to put my single 10" in that would have more air space. i know it'd do better in a better box but i'll leave that to the next owner

You can definitely get a single 12" sub loud. No question. I have done it and seen it.
12W0 are the next to last in line for JL. The last is the WX series. They will provide bass on the cheap but in most cases if I am using a JL sub I won't go below the W1 if the customer wants JL Audio specifically. The reason for this is that there are many other better subs on the market that are in the same price category.
If you wanted some big bass I even have a slant box that is for your trunk that fits a single 15" sub. It is offset to the drivers side which leaves you room on the other side to mount your amp. It would be different and offer some big bass. I also have very nice 15" subs laying around that I really have no use for. One is a an MB Quart Premium PWE352 and a very rare, not made anymore CDT 15" sub that I think I am going to hold on to for now. If you wanted something like that it would provide you some big bass.
I also have several dual 12" enclosures from Atrend and Audio Enhancers that would do the job. Shoot me an email with a budget in mind and goals you want the system to achieve and I can see what I can make happen. keeaudio@bellsouth.net

You guys seem to be pretty adamant on that single twelve...i have never seen/heard one in person in an f-body so it may be great. I found a deal on 2 memphis audio 12's with a 1200w mono amp that i picked up yesterday so I'll hang on to that for a few months at least. Kee Audio....I will contact you about a 15" set up in a few months...thanks for the help man

I got my dual 10" box from KeeAudio and I have to say, the fit and build quality is far superior to many other boxes I have seen.

If you want big bass and aren't concerned with keeping your trunk space, you should look into the same box I got. I got mine made for 2 10" subs, you could go that route or get one for 2 12's. But I think that would just be a retarded amount of bass. The box angles the subs toward the front of the car, and it's a hatchback. I'm expecting my 2 10's to be way more than enough.

For the money, sub wise, Alpine Type R's have always been my favorite.

This issue is the main reason I love Kenwood Excelon head units. They have built in variable high pass filter so you can control what frequincies reach your full range speakers. They also have subwoofer level controls that allows you to adjust the bass output of your subwoofer without affecting the bass level of your full range speakers.
