I'm looking for a heavier amperage alternator to keep up with my stereo and larger fuel pump. Still on the stocker and haven't had any problems, but I figured I should replace it this winter before it leaves me stranded.

eBay. Pull out of a wrecked Tahoe. Came with 6 month warranty for half the price of a new one.

You'll see a lot of folks swear by "truck alternators" but you can get the stock design in higher outputs. (Just pick which ever one has the additional power you need over the 102 Amp stocker.) http://www.alternatorparts.com/cs130...lternators.htm

I'm running about 800w with a cap.

And I remember that thread, but forgot about it.

I'll get a truck Alt. Doesn't bother me.

Go with the truck alternator. Larger case, newer design, more reliable. CS130d sucks.

I got mine from www.dcpowerinc.com though. Not cheap there.

and a dry cell battery does alot. ive ran a 2400 watt rms amp at 1 ohm stable with one dry cell battery were the cap goes and a stock alternator. for years and never had a issue. and i never seen m headligth dime once imo caps suck. but there better than nothing

if you have a bass cd play a countous note for 40 seconds with a cap and a volt meter and watch the volts go down fast

now do the same with a dry cell battery and they will stay at 13.8 volts all day

but if you do a alterntor and a dry cell you can throw anything you want at it

Max.. I'll upgrade anyway. Mine is still the stocker, I just don't want to have the headache of it shitting out on me.

I've got an optima red top too I forgot to mention. I'm not all out for bass, but I'm running two amps.

^ Was wondering why my lights flicker on my pickup. I start it and the battery "word" in the DIS will stay there for a half a second or so................ Then about 20 seconds later the headlights will get brighter and I can hear the alt whining. Takes it THAT long to start working?? POS truck..

Check to see if your truck has an exciter wire. If so, that's probably this problem.

Type in "KG3 alternator" into fleabay. It's the RPO code for the 145 amp option on the trucks.

Yes, but I don't know if it will be a drop in replacement or not. See if you can find a wiring diagram for your alternator that shows the labeled wires (e.g. C, L) that go to it. Compare that to the donor vehicle you're getting the alternator from.
