Default key fob issues...

Fellas,

Having issues with my key fob. For whatever reason it does not lock. I changed the battery and it worked for a bit than stopped. I picked up another used key fob and it worked okay. Now its not locking again. ill press the button like 10x and no response.

I tried cleaning around the buttons, and the chip itself.. but nothing. i noticed when i open the fob the battery is loose. So im wondering if i should get a brand new fob so it seals a bit better. looking at picking up a brand new fob online.. but i dont really wanna blow $80 at the stealership plus whatever the cost of reprogramming.

Moving to Electronics for more help.

FYI - You should be able to get a new remote for $30-40, at the worst and the programming instructions are here in the Electronics FAQ: https://ls1tech.com/forums/stereo-el...ml#post3881626

My key fob doesn't work unless I hold it right next to the roof of my car close to the windshield, but I have a vert so I guess the only way the signal could get through it for it to go through th cloth. Try that. Idk what's up with it but it works better at night. I can press my buttons 10 feet away at night and they work but in the day time... Nothing.

My fob started acting up like that one time so I bought new buttons and shell and ended up having to put a little piece of paper behind the battery to put some pressure and tighten it up and it started working fine...just my .02

My experience is that they don't last more than 75K miles of daily driver use. Mine case bought it, so I was able to re-use the board and just replace the case and buttons.

Although, I've seen a lot of battery holders/contacts come loose over the years. Those are a PITA to fix so its usually easier to program a replacement.

BTW - You can get new fobs from a number of sources, eBay included. As long as you make sure the "FCC ID:" on the back of the remote matches, it will work with the car. Mine also has a GM part number embossed on the back.

If the battery is loose it might be the battery connector metal hold down bracket came loose from the circuit board. You can fix this with a solder gun. Also did you try programming it. Turn the key off and to run 3 times in a row, and then hold the unlock/lock for 15 seconds and the door should lock itself meaning that the programming worked. Also might have to remove the radio fuse because of the theft lock wight he monsoon radio might cause an issue.
