a Firebird? Specifically, what would happen if you replaced the door speakers with a 6.5 inch single voice sub? Would you lose part of your midrange tone?

Read the Monsoon sticky in the electronics section. You maybe already have 6.5" subs in the sail panels.

I've already replaced the subs in the sail panels. I was just curious what would happen soundwise if you added two more subs vs two midrange components.

It'll sound like crap. Why would a bunch of subs without any other speakers sound good?

You would have the door speakers. I have wondered the same thing the op is asking.
Have dedicated subs in the sail with the door speakers for mids and highs. In turn leaving the t-top bucket open instead of putting the subs there.

I meant an extra set of subs in the doors in addition to the sail subs. In the TA you'd still have tweeters in the door and mids to highs from the hatch speakers.

The hatch speakers are just filler. It's a tiny speaker that doesn't put out much. If you swap in a decent speaker and adjust the fade to the rear you'll just have horribly uneven sound.

If you really want more bass just swap out the factory subs for the bazookas or get the RF shallow 8". Both can put out good bass on the factory amp

I modded my rear hatch panels to hold a set of Focal K2- 6.5" two ways that I had previously in my sail panels. It widened the sound stage like you would not believe, Just moving those 2 ways to the back made my system sound so much better that I can't believe what an improvement in sound quality it made! I'm currently searching for a very good set of 6" subs that will fit in the sails without any cutting or hammering. and I've got a set of Focal K2 6.5" components in the doors.

bammax is correct... it would sound like crap. You would be giving up all mid-range except for the hatch speakers which are woefully insufficient. And even if you put more powerful speakers in the back, you would end up sounding like a '70s car with speakers in the rear parcel shelf. You might as well get an 8-track player to go with it.

Besides, you would be adding mid-bass rather than subs... there is no such thing as a good 6.5" true sub (br549 please take note) - you need to go at least 8" to get true bass. If you want more bass, installing a stealth box is simple, relatively inexpensive, and can produce amazing levels of bass due to the shape of the hatch.

Thanks, I figured there was probably a reason why it hasn't been done.

Kee audio has the cdt subs that are close to a direct swap for stock, or the bazookas that take a tiny bit of work to install. Those are the only options I know that don't require any cutting or hammering.

The Bazookas sound good and are reasonably priced
