Default rear window defroster problem

My rear window defroster sucks. I get in my car and start it, push the rear defrost button and the button lights up, but only stays on for a lil bit. It barely starts to work and then shuts off. and it won't go back on for a couple of minutes.

any suggestions?

try this: unplug the connectors at the rear window. the two terminals attached to the glass , check for continuity with an ohmmeter , if you have infinite resistance, you have a broken grid (the little lines in the glass ),also visually inspect the lines in the glass for broken lines . might even be metallized window tint causing the problem . GM does have those on a timer that shuts it off after a little while , might end up having to live with it.

The breaker (the silver guy in the fuse box) that GM used were of very cheap quality. Remove it and replace it with a better one or just put a fuse of the same amperage in its spot. I did this two years ago and its worked ever since. The timer will still work also.

could the timer be bad? Where is it at? I was talking to a friend and he thought it could be bad if it had one.

I turn mine on and it shuts off after a few minutes and then my power seats don't work either for the same time. I try to work them a few minutes later and they come back on. Weird!

I agree with felton316. I have had the exact same problem as all of you have described. Its nothing more than that stupid silver breaker. Annoying as hell in the winter time.
