Default tach is pissing me off help!!

ok guys i went to install my autometer monster tach w/shift lite i have a 98 z i hooked it up to the 35 pin white wire at the computer and then tested it i set it on 4cyl mode by cutting the 2 wires on the back. now i went in the car a tested it with the car at 1500 rpm and it was at 3000 then i started playing with the 4 wires on the back of the tach tryed 6cyl mode swoped 2 wires and its just not hitting where it should i just don't understand what the hell is going on here if you have any suggestion please feel free to post cause it is really pissing me off....

If you have a V8 why are you trying to run it in 4cyl mode?

It's coil per cylinder, most shiftlites use 4 cyl. mod with our cars

so what am i doing wrong that this godamn thing isn't working cause like i said in 4cyl mode the damn thing reads like 1500 rpms more then it should what can i do to rectify this problem cause i have my nos kit hook in and i opted for no window switch so i need the shiftlite to work in order to know when to kill the nitrous flow..

on the autometer web site the say to only clip the orange loop. reconect the brown loop back together and it should work fine!

i've tried connecting and disconnecting each wire and on my autometer theres a blue and brown so i don't know what to do im at a loss here

Have you tried calling tech support at autometer? Maybe they have a way of testing for a defective tach, which is the direction im leaning.

who told you to use the 16 pin at the computer b/c im trying to just figure out where i need to go with the lead off the tach so i can get a reading thank you
