Yeah, Crutchfield gives you free stuff and great shipping rates with great customer support so they are really popular. If you want to save a few bucks though I've spent over $1,000 with www.ikesound.com with absolutely no issues with them except one small shipping delay that wasn't a problem. I've even called them to change an order and got great customer support.
I like the 1.5 den player myself...like my CDA-D855....it fills the entire area where the player goes....they have been discontinued though and can only find it on ebay or from someone u know that has one....other than that yea Crutchfield and Ebay are the places to look...but watch out for scammers on ebay.
if you want a factory warranty and want to buy new, i would recommend Crutchfield. you may be able to find a good deal on ebay, but you never really know what you're getting, and there is no warranty/tech support on it.
i tend to stay away from ebay as much as possible....for one, i hate Paypal, and that's the preferred (and a lot of times, the only) payment accepted by ebayers. for another thing, you never really know if what you're buying actually works or not, or if it's stolen or what.

I picked up my Alpine CDA-9847, to use with my iPod adapter. Got the h/u for $170 and after $50 of install supplies, I very well should have simply bought it from Crutchfield and got the better service. My two cents, hit up crutchfield, cause everything that's needed to install these in f-body's is included free, and like stated above, it balances out.

i gambled a tad and got a alpine 7998 off crutchfields 'scratch and dent' section for 350.
that is a smoking deal..
there is absolutley nothing scratched or dented that i have noticed, i REALLY checked it out when i got it to make sure it wasnt something that would drive me crazy. it looked more like an opened box/missing part return since it didnt have any indications of ever being mounted. i still have a full warranty, all the free crutchfield install stuff,it works great, and i know crutchfield will take care of me if anything ever goes bad.
with a upper end head unit, i would either buy from a big online place like crutchfield or buy from a local shop. way too much coin imo to not have a solid warranty if something goes bad.

i think crutchfield is one of the best places to go to for HUs. the price is fairly consistent on them, not as much of a markup as subs or amps. (some amps sell for double what the place buys them for)
