Hey guys,
I own a 96 Buick Regal, Nice big trunk.. I love bass and think its time I put a nice system in the Buick. Question is I've been so out of the loop in car audio that I don't know which route to go. I was hoping you could recommend the right Amplifier and subs to put in my car...Although I'd like to keep the cost down. I'd like to get close 140db as I can. What do you recommend on a budget and where would you order them from??
Thanks
Marco

140dB? Isn't 120dB considered the threshhold for pain?
Whatever you decide to put in, please use it responsibly. Not everyone appreciates thumping bass track.

140 db isnt all that loud IMO......i hit 145 w/ 1000 watt amp pushing 2 10s and it didnt seem like a whole lot. maybe im just gettin use to it, idk. the way DBs work is that every increase of 5 dBs is double the sound output...
example: 145 dBs is twice as loud as 140....somoene correct me if im wrong but this is how it was explained to me at the stereo shop.

A stock stereo system is capable of pulling a 120...120, isnt very loud at all...and a 140 out of a trunk car isnt anything to scoff at..on the termlab anyway..
obviously, youre not aware that the solo x has been in many world championship winning sq vehicles..Its all in the install, obviously if you throw it in a enormous box with an absurd amount of port area, tuned really high..its gonna sound like trash..just like any other sub.
um, yeah
..have you even used an orion product lately? For the money you pay for a w7 and 1000/1, none the less, installation..you could buy 2 systems capable of outperforming that combo..JL is a solid, quality product, but its way over-priced for what you get..
Cant go wrong with RE Audio products...A pair of SE 15"s (600rms per/dual 4ohm) and a RE 12.1 (1200rms @ 1ohm) should be a sufficient amount of spl with a good mix of sound quality for under a thousand bucks shipped..Won our class at 2005's usaci finals using their subs. great customer service.
go to....

Well for starters if you want lots of BASS, scrap the SQ type subs. I don't care how much someone trys to tell you how great a SQ type sub is. If you want bass get top of the line mids & highs with (1) 15" or (2) 12" subs in a correctly built box. To get to 140db in a trunk car without it being open to the cabin your lookin at around 1000+ watts. I had a 93' probe with a 1000 watt kicker on a 15" Digital Design sub(which is made for bass competition) & $500 in Dynamat & polyfil in my car. It hit 143db off the dash on a db meter.
If you get SQ(Sound Quality) type subs they will scream you out of the car with way less bass. My probe had a open trunk & all bass bounced off rear hatch & straight to the windshield. So you get the idea.
I am only gonna put (2) 10" Pioneer subs(which I already have & they hit deep, hard & clear) & my Zapco 350i amp in my T/A. Should be plenty loud for me.
Good luck on your project.
P.S. - look into U.S. Amps if they are still around. Very good brand, or at least they used to be when I competed locally.

140 in a regal? Easy.... Follow these simple steps:
1- pop out the back seat, and cut out 2 large holes using a sawzall, leaving 4" between the holes, and around the edge, since the regal has a solid sheet of metal behind the back seat.
2- buy this for around $500:

3- Buy two of these for about $210 each:

4- Spend the rest on .75" MDF to build a solid 5 cubic foot ported box.
You are probably going to want a high output alternator, and some 1/0 gauge wire, as well as a LOT of sound deadening. This will push you above $1K.
I imagine you could do the entire enchilada for $1k if you bought a used 1000 watt RMS name brand amp like these(which will sell for about $200-$250): http://cgi.ebay.com/ROCKFORD-FOSGATE...QQcmdZViewItem
