maybe a helms manual?? If I remember right I think it has wiring diagrams somewhere in it. Maybe someone else will chime in.

The Helm manuals definitely have the schematics,
but that's a chunk of change. I don't think the
car electricals have much to do with this except
for determining what sort of switch the convertible top switch is (I'd guess SPDT,
center-off, momentary). Whether this matches
the switch that comes with the QTEC I dunno.

Barry at QTP said it can be done... He didn't know how to do it, but could be done... Anyone have anything?

Ok.....here we go.

DEI part number 611T. This takes a momentary pulse and can convert it to either a latched or timed output. I would say make it a timed deal, and add a sec or two. That way when you open, it will open and then try for a sec longer, to make sure that the cutout is open. Same deal for closed.

What is DEI part number 611T?
I plan on mounting my stock Qtec switch to a convertible faceplate. Any more insight on how this can be done? A timed output switch would be nice just to click and know that it is open. Thanks.

You use the convert top switch. Go buy it from the dealer along with the switch plate. I have pin outs of the switch down in the garage. Whowever posted the pinouts for the TCS switch.......I am sure they can post the pin outs for the convert top switch. I am just in a horrible hurry at the min. But. You get the switch. Then you do all of the wiring that you need to do for the switch. Power, acc, backlighting, ground etc. Then the outputs of the switch would go to a 611T. It is a small black box that needs to have about 6 wires connected. Ground, Power, Acc, input, output. All of that. Then it will make your output from the button a timed or latched output. VS just having the momentary like it is now. That way you do not have to push and hold it when you open your QTP. You would need a total of 2 of them (611T). One for the open and one for the close. Just find a good stereo/alarm shop. Places that do custom installs would be great. Their knowledge/capabilties should carry you along. And for buying the DEI part, look for a place that sells Viper, Python, Sidewinder. Even Avital or Clifford now. They are all made by DEI, (Directed Electronics Inc).

Hope that helps.

But why even use the DEI parts? I think that one of the coolest things about the electric cutout is that you can have it as open or closed as you like, tunable if you will. By adding the dei modules, you've taken it to either fully open or fully closed. Just my $.02. Though I would like to know how to use the tcs switch instead of the qtp switch (i.e. which wires go where on the tcs switch)

as far as i know, the TCS switch is not a multiple throw switch, so i dont think it can be used for both open and close.

The vert can.

The DEI parts, well, thats kinda cool, but expensive for some simple $100 cutout mod.

If you want a standard SPST switch that has a factory look, the ASR switch works fine. Scrape off the paint cleanly to make a square white patch, and write "QTEC" neatly in the space. That way, once wired, it lights up like factory equipment, reversed. You get a factory look if you remove the "Camaro" logo on the radio bezel. There are spaces for two more switches under that logo plate. The QTEC is controlled by a solenoid. Power applied, it's open. Power removed, it's closed. You can hook both sides up in series, so one switch controls both gates. If you want, send me an e-mail and I'll make a wiring diagram for you. I'm going to do this to mine. I just need to save some cash first.

I have the Camaro piece removed and have three fog light switches controlling a kill switch, fog lights and line lock and a TCS switch controlling my purge. I have the conv.switch panel installed with a push button start added and want to hook the conv.top switch to the QTP. The switch works identical with the addition of lighting... can someone PLEASE post the wiring diagram?

This is very nearly a SPDT, center-off, momentary
^^^^
DPDT, my mistake

switch. This is not a very common type. But, if
you had a generic one of these, you would connect

L1 V+
C1 Motor +
R1 Gnd

L2 Gnd
C2 Motor -
R1 V+

Then L is motor forward, C is neutral and R is
motor reverse.

A SPDT toggle would apply voltage all the time
and you'd rather not do this. You'd want limit
switches, timeouts or sump'n.

WHAT KIND OF SIGNAL DOES THE MOTOR NEED TO OPEN/CLOSE.

I keep hearing many different answers to this.

I believe from what i have read, is needs a reversal of voltage to drive a motor, is this correct? Very simple, and works just like the NX bottle opener.

If so, you need a DPDT switch, (center off) not a SPDT, although, as SPDT (center off) can easily be used with the addition of 2 relays. (i can and will provide wiring diagrams, if somebody can for sure answer my above question)

I am very willing to help in this thread, but without a real answer to the above question, we're running in circles.

I would agree that the motor is just flipping polarity for the open or close. I do not have one of them....but it would be the best guess in this regard. Possibly looking into a 5 wire issue. Kind like Ford locks.

I have one in my car and I use a simple 2 relay circuit that uses 2 negative inputs with a momentary rocker type switch. All you need to do is look for a reverse polarity doorlock cicuit (I use them all the time installing door lock actuators). The QTEC opens or closes based on the polarity of the wires but you wouldn't want to have two switches unless it was completely isolated from each other or it would short out if you switched one and one wire was resting at ground/positive on the other.

Could you describe this process of changing switches to someone who doesn't have a clue? I would like to switch my Qtec thanks.
