I have a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro SS and I NEVER use the cruise control. I tried to use it a few days ago and it didn't work. I then did the following to try and diagnose the problem.

1. I pulled the fuse....it's fine.

2. I tried operating everything else on the control stalk....everything works.

I am out of ideas. Is there something that I am missing???

The A/C CRUISE fuse was fine? AC working? I've never tried using mine either. Don't know if it's true or not, but remember reading somewhere about it not working if the third brake light was out? Not sure on that though.

I'll check my 3rd brake light tonight. I may just put this in the "It's an F-body, it's supposed to do that" column

Check the brake pedal switch too - it's gotta be tied into the cruise module somehow.

It doesn't work period. The brake I know is tied in because that's what can release it, but it doesn't even engage.

if it is a manual then pull the clutch pedal out with ur foot, because there is a sensor not being engaged, then try to use the cruise, my m6 has this problem because there is air in my lines or something so the clutch pedal doesnt disengage to the point where it kicks on that sensor

Mine is now having this problem as well. I just replaced the master and the pedal is at the max height and cannot be pulled any further up. How can this be with a switch and where would it be located at? It is bled and works great now, did I pull something weird while working around the brake booster/master?

mine isn't working either, realized it on a trip a week ago... between that trip and the last time I used it, the little pin on the clutch pedal broke off, which I hear is fairly common and not a huge deal, however I feel this might have something to do with it.

my leg was so damn sore after a 6 hour drive

I am not sure, but I can't imagine the sensor for the cruise control being apart of the hydraulics end of teh clutch. It is likely just a simple limit switch attached to the clutch pedal.

I agree that this is likely your problem.

It wasn't anything but the switch on the pedal bracket. I put it back into place and adjusted it to the return height of the clutch. Good as new!

Having the same problem here with CC not engaging. If someone has remedy this problem pls let us all know. There are several threads with many possible causes. Fuse and third brake light are alright on my TA. Had a shop troubleshoot the CC but it has them stumped or they didn't want to tackle it. Will try troubleshooting the clutch switch when the TA gets out of the shop.

The clutch switch is a fairly common cause of the cruise not engaging. The switch opens the circuit when the clutch pedal is depressed to disengage the cruise. If the switch is out of adjustment it will not close properly and prevent the cruise from engaging. It is a threaded switch on the clutch pedal bracket that has four wires - brown with white, pink, gray, and black with white. The nut holding it in place loosens and the switch won't engage properly. Just tighten the nut to fix the problem.

Does there need to be any type of adjustment to the switch (i.e. certain gap btwn end of clutch and switch). I'll check the switch this afternoon, on my wat to pick the TA up.

Is there any way to get a picture of the bracket that loosens up? I looked under my dash (with the black plastic panel and the piece directly under the steering wheel off) and couldn't see any type of wiring going to the clutch pedal, just one going to the brake pedal. As much wiring as there is under there, though, I'm sure it's easy to miss.

I jujst adjusted it so that the button was fully depressed when the clutch pedal was all the way out. Might as well check the brake position too since either one can give the fault.

I found about a 1/8" gap between the switch plunger and pedal. Brake switch is set so that the plunger is completely depressed. That chaps by backside, when I specifically pointed the shop in the right direction. I guess they were scared of it and did not touch it. Going to test drive since it is a beautiful day.

well my car is crazy.. the cruise control works great as long as i dont turn on the rear defroster.. if i do it turns it off.. my 3rd brakelight doesnt light up unless the rear defrost is on...

Electrical Gremlins. Thats a good question for an electrical person. Do you have a set of Hayes shop manuals? The wiring diaghragms are helpful that are included. The set of manuals is well worth the price.

How hard was it to get the pedal adjusted to the right return height of the clutch and how do I know when it's adjusted right? Thanks
