Default iPod in my Camaro?

I not good with stereo or electronics...

I want to hook up an iPod on my car. I have an Alpine headunit. Is this possible or do I need a different headunit? Also, where do ya'll mount the iPods? I just so tired of burning CD's.

Thanks!!

Alpine CDA-7894

Do you know if I can hook my iPod up to it? If so what kind of cord do I buy to hook it up?

Also, can someone PLEASE tell me how to set the time on the Alpine unit? I can't figure it out, I have to keep looking at my cell phone if I want to know what time it is.

Thanks a million!

You want the Alpine KCA-420i adapter ($85-$100 online) to connect your iPod to the AI port on the back of your head unit. You are aware that the CDA-7894 plays MP3 discs as well as regular CDs? You could put several CDs on a single MP3 disc and not have to change discs so often. Just suggesting an inexpensive alternative to buying an iPod and adapter.

The clock setting instructions were in your owners manual. You can download the manual from Alpine - click on "owners manuals" under the support column. The CDA-7894 will be listed under "discontinued products".

Setting Time
1 In the Clock priority mode, press and hold the CLK
(clock) button for at least 3 seconds while the time is
displayed. The time indication will blink.
2 Turn the Rotary encoder to adjust the hours while the
time indication is blinking.
3 When the hour has been adjusted, press the Rotary
encoder.
4 Turn the Rotary encoder to adjust the minutes while
the time indication is blinking. The time is automatically
set 5 seconds after the minute adjustment. The time
can also be manually set by pressing the Rotary
encoder.

Thank you so much!!

I'm aware that it plays MP3's in fact that is all I use. The problem with downloading that many songs on one disc is that then you can never find that one song you want to play. With the iPod you can find it much faster. I already have an iPod nano, now I just need to get the adapter.

So where do people keep there iPods in there cars? Do they just set them in the drink holder?

Also thanks for helping with the time on my CD player!

Thanks,
Nick

FM Transmitters are usually pretty crappy, I know its hard to find an "empty" frequency in my area.

yeah, depending on where you go, especially near the bigger cities, you will not find a empty frequency; almost impossible.

and even if you do, driving around sometimes the frequency gets distorted with another channel etc... its annoying.

The iPod2Car is strictly for connecting an iPod to a factory stereo but there is a PAC adapter that will work with Alpine AI-net connections.

So before I buy the Alpine adapter w/ the module and spend all that money, is there a better way to connect my iPod to my stereo? Looking for a good quality sound and also cheap adapter...

It depends on what you want. The adapters mentioned earlier are all designed specifically for connecting an iPod. They charge the battery and some even allow controlling the iPod from the head unit.

Now, if you just want a direct connection from the iPod to the head unit, you can get an auxiliary input cable for under $20. All it does is connect the headphone jack of any auxiliary audio source (satellite radio, MP3 player, or even your iPod) to the auxiliary input of the Alpine head unit. You would have to have the iPod within reach to change tracks, etc. and you'd have to keep an eye on the battery.

Here are the pics
This is the screen, i have it to the left of the steering wheel/gauges hump

The remote in the cup holder

My Ipod in that cave thing

The box thingy and all the wires just wedged above the radio

What it all look slike from the outside

picked this up from best buy for like 80 i think? not more than 100. The screen and controller are great, think of it like chopping an ipod in half, the remote works just the the click wheel on an ipod
