Default ne one know how to disable sensor for headlights

I was just wondering if there was a way to turn on the headlights only from the switch? Not having them go on automatically.

Go here http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/drl.html

Its really easy to just put that resistor in it and tuck it back under your dash. Dont bother trying to take out the radio unless you are wanting to disable the amber lights also.

u can totally disable it or just pull ur E brake up one click...it doesnt engage the brake but it does allow u to turn on ur lights with switch only.

On the camaro's, you don't even need the resistor. The pontiac wiring diagram shows a straight connection there and I've done that mod for 2 of my buds.

That's correct. The photosensor has decreasing resistance as the available light increases. Shorting the two leads together with a piece of wire will do no damage and will make the system think it's daylight all the time. That will disable the automatic headlights but still allow turning them on with the switch.

First off, why would you want to disable the daytime running lights? I've found that they are very effective in making sure you are seen by other drivers who may be on the phone, putting on makeup, eating, etc.

If you really want to turn them off, here is what I posted some time ago on the other board...

I'm not really sure what side effects this would have so please be careful and check everything as you go. That said, the DRLs are powered through two relays that are internal to the DRL module in the dash behind the radio. When not using turn signals, the relays allow ignition controlled power to go to the front turn signal bulbs. When the turn signals are activated, the relay switches over to allow flasher controlled power to go to the bulb on that side of the car.

I haven't tried this (I like having the DRLs) but according to the wiring diagrams you should be able to simply bypass the DRL module internal relays by connecting the flasher controlled power wires directly to the lamp output wires at the DRL module. Pull the light blue with white wire and the light blue wire out of connector C1 (the larger black connector) on the DRL module and connect the two wires together. Do the same with the dark blue with white wire and the dark blue wire from the same connector.

This will make the front lights only work as normal parking lights and turn signals (no more DRL). It should not affect other functions such as automatic headlights in any way but you should check everything just in case. Who knows what convoluted logic GM may have built into the DRL module...
The DRL module is a box about two inches wide by three inches tall clipped to the defroster duct behind the radio.
