Default DIY Monsoon repair

I've got two visually identical Monsoon CD HUs, one '98 and one '99. The 99 has the ERR problem when you put in a CD and is currently installed in my car. Is there any way to take good parts from the 98 HU to fix this?

Why bother? Just install the entire 98 head unit in the 99 - it's plug-and-play. The only difference between them would be if your 99 happens to be one of the very few that year that had the changer option available. But that option was a function of the internal CD drive circuitry so if you swap the CD drive with one from an older model you would still lose the changer option.

Ahh so the CD changer option would follow the guts...

Now I've read multiple times that only late 99s could actually control an external changer. What I would like is CD in the dash and CD changer converted to iPod input with one of those interface boxes. But if neither method will get me both features I'll settle with what I already have installed and test it with someone's CD changer.

dave, i just put up a write up on saturday about hooking up an ipod/iphone interface that ROCKS!! do a search under my name or look under the "stereo" section for it.

It's everything you're looking for...TRUST ME! enjoy!

PS: the interface needs a '00 or newer stereo. They're the ones with CD changer controls.
