1982 Camaro Brochure Previews an Entirely New Era

Long before the Internet took over, a brochure told us everything we needed to know about the new, high-tech Camaro.

Before the internet invaded our living rooms, office cubicles, and pockets, our best bet at obtaining information on the latest and greatest automobiles was either a magazine or brochure. Both still exist today, but the latter isn’t quite as glamorous a thing as it once was. And they’re most definitely not as dramatic or comically futuristic. Nothing like this amazing 1982 Chevy Camaro brochure recently retrieved from the basement of Hemmings Motor News.

If any automobile in history deserved such a fancy brochure, it was certainly the 3rd gen Camaro. This high-tech, entirely new sports car couldn’t be any different from its predecessor, for starters. It was smaller, more aerodynamic, and lighter, with a much improved chassis design. And then there was that styling. Compared to the 2nd gen Camaro, this new car looked like it had just rolled off a space ship, driven by some corny looking alien seeking directions to the White House.

These advancements are on full display in this 18-page brochure. There’s a detailed cutaway image showing the car’s drivetrain, ergonomics, and various other technologies. There’s a model breakdown, including images of the 1982 Motor Trend Car of the Year, the Camaro Z/28. Or, as Chevy likes to call it “the maximum Camaro.”
