Yenko SC

The Yenko is back! SVE will make just 100, with up to 1,150 horsepower on tap for the Stage II model.

The story of Yenko goes way back to the early days of the pony and muscle car wars. Don Yenko was a master at tinkering with GM’s and had his name on Camaros, and even Corvairs. The Yenko S/C that we see here is a spiritual successor to those cars.

Specialty Vehicle Engineering has the contract from GM to build these machines, and they come in Stage I or Stage II flavors. Stage 1 is no slouch, with all of the horsepower starting off with a blueprinted 6.2 liter LT-1. From there, it is punched out to 6.8 liters, and a belt-driven supercharger is added to the mix. An upgraded fuel system with higher flow injectors compliments a bigger throttle body and new exhaust, too. Stage I gives 1,100 horsepower.

The rest of the car backs up the engine’s performance. Magnetic ride control with uprated springs, bushings and sway bars are all unique to the suspension on the Yenko Camaro. Plus you get a limited slip differential for proper application of all those ponies. That rear differential is bolstered with a cooling system, as is the transmission and engine oil systems.

And Stage II gives 1,150. What’s the difference? A clutch pedal. That’s right, if you want 50 more horsepower, you’re going to do so with the joy of rowing through your own gears. The 50 extra horsepower likely is added through reduced drivetrain losses. And thankfully, everyone will know that you’re part of an elite gang of gear grabbing enthusiasts, because the horsepower rating is display via the hood scoop and rear spoiler. SVE says it is made for “optimal race track performance” which is why manual is the only option for Stage II.

Other visuals include the iconic Yenko side stripe, and a new painted carbon fiber hood with scoop. There are also “many unique interior features” but those aren’t specified. And honestly, that’s OK because it’s that supercharged LT-1 that is the real party piece. SVE will make just 100 Yenko’s, split evenly between Stage I and Stage II.
