2nd Gen Camaro Track Car via Detroit Speed
Kyle Tucker, co-founder of Detroit Speed, Inc. has been in the business of building fast cars for some time now, so it stands to reason that his personal vehicle would be one bad machine, and to the surprise of no one, it is. This 1970 second generation Chevrolet Camaro is outfitted with every go-fast part Detroit Speed offers.
The chassis is about as well as any classic muscle car can be, with bolt-in replacement subframe/k-member, utilizing a coil-over spring and shock setup, proper short-long arm suspension to allow for negative camber gain under compression. The rear suspension is a Detroit Speed QuadraLink setup, replacing the leafs with a multi-link setup also utilizing coil-over springs and shocks. From there, the car is fitted with massive 6-piston Baer disc brakes, and equally massive 315 section width front tires and 335 section width rear tires, those are the new BFG Rival S designed-for-autocross tires, which fit courtesy of revised bodywork and modified inner wheel housings using the Detroit Speed mini tub kit.
Forward propulsion is handled by a MAST motorsport derived LS engine, which uses a billet Dart block and typical breathing modifications, making 650 naturally aspirated horsepower and it is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission using 3.89 rear gears. Unsurprisingly, it’s fast, loud and incredible.
