900 Horsepower Supra Blows Up Roll Racing LS-Powered Beasts

A night of roll-racing on the highway ends when big-boost Supra goes up in smoke.

A few hundred-thousand quarter-mile timeslip results tell a nice tale of the LS architecture’s stoutness. However, sometimes you just need a direct comparison like this video from Shots by Jacob.

Toyota Supra Engine Street Race

This evening of street racing dishes out the comparison between three LS-powered monsters: a pair of Corvette Z06s and a Camaro with a stout turbo build. All three take turns roll-racing down the highway. When the passenger in the left lane gives the signal, we get a splendid symphony of gutsy LS rumble.

The speeds get pretty intense; the camera captures one Corvette’s speedometer kissing 170 miles per hour. As the other Corvette slows for a back-to-back run, its front brakes glow volcanic orange.

However, things get interesting when a fourth-generation Toyota Supra joins the part. The 2JZ-powered Supra puts down 900 horsepower. At the go sign, the still-sexy Japanese sports car pulls hard away from the Corvette. Just when the Corvette seems about to be left, the 2JZ goes pop.

A smoke screen pours from the exhaust tips and the red Supra calls it a night. We’re not sure how wounded the Toyota’s engine turned out to be. We know the 2JZ can take a lot of punishment so maybe it was just this engine’s time to retire.

Whatever the case, the street racers all seem ready to head for home after that cooked motor. Even LS engines expire after some time, even with 750 to 900 ponies reaching the wheels. We suspect that red Supra will find its way back to the streets for another round, however. When it does, we hope to see a fighting chance against the American muscle; variety is the spice of life, after all.
