Swedish Built Big Block C4 Wins Class At Sick Week Drag And Drive

With big block power and huge turbo boost, this C4 Corvette earned 1st place in two classes at Sick Week.

No trailer queens here. This is Sick Week 2024, and that means one of the most popular “drag and drive” events is upon us. The concept is simple. Your drag car is assigned a class depending on its prep level. And you compete at 5 different drag strips, driving hundreds of miles between events. There’s way-points too, just to make sure you’re actually driving your drag car.

Naturally, hundreds of cars enter this event every year, and return winner was this C4 Corvette. Winning both “Fastest Chevrolet” and “Unlimited” class for 2024, this big block, twin turbo Corvette has a unique story.

Stefan Gustaffson hails from Sweden, but has no problem mixing it up with the American Iron crowd here in the US. This build started in 2002, and as Gustaffson states “came from three Corvettes in a salvage yard.” It’s evolved over the years, and in its current form is a winner of Sick Week.

Powered by a 540 cubic inch big block as we found through EngineBuilders, this Corvette is deep into the 6’s on the strip. With 48 pounds of boost, Gustaffson claims about 2,100 horsepower to the rear drag tires. Usually this combo contains plenty of speed to be the fastest at the strip. But Sick Week has a lot of heavy hitters, and the Unlimited category is now up against the Radial tire category for fastest runs.

Still, there’s a matter of getting to every event, and running smoothly at every event. Issues at the first round in Orlando meant a fastest ET of 7.1 at 153 was all that the C4 could do. This set Gustaffson on a back-foot, plus brake issues while in transit meant more time was spent on repairs than prep. Still, Bradenton, Gainesville, Adel, and a second round at Orlando were much more kind to the car’s runs. Bradenton gave the best result with an ET of 6.498 at 220.69. But the other rounds had more top end, with the Adel round producing a 6.6 second run at 227.42 miles per hour.

While a champ in the past, Gustaffson had to settle for two class wins this year. A Mustang running in the Radial tire class was running in the low 6’s and ran flawlessly all week. But that’s racin’!
