Butterfly doors almost got played out, but this C7 Z06 proves that in some applications, these can still look good.

There once was a time when the audaciousness of butterfly doors would have you feeling a bit shamed. But in recent years, and in the right applications, they don’t come off as obtuse. Case and point; this C7 Z06 Corvette.

This Corvette was spotted earlier in the year at a Supercars by the Sea event in Huntington Beach, California. Amongst all the supercars who’s doors open in the same fashion, this Corvette was able to fit in quite well. Lest we forget that its performance would make other Italian empires blush in embarrassment.

Not only do the doors look good, but they compliment the car’s black and white high contrast styling. To us, it looks almost a bit like a space shuttle. The fully blacked out tail section and large swaths of black panels contrast well with the cars white paint. In fact, the doors might get a lot of attention, but the details of this car continue to get better as you continue to look at it.

Upon closer inspection, the front end is from a ZR1, the hood is a raised cowl type, and black striping surrounds the Z06 gilled on the front fenders. The interior is still a stock Z06 affair, which isn’t a bad thing at all. We envision a splash of contrasting accents would really tie the interior and exterior together.

As your eyes travel towards the back of the car, the rear side windows have an angled covering on them, vortex generators are evident on the roof, and even the large rear window has angular louvers attached. All of it much in the same vein as a Lamborghini Aventador. It all terminates at the back with a simple but nice touch of tapered exhaust outlets. Simbolo X wheels complete the package.

While these kinds of doors used to be a bit cringe-worthy (and sometimes they still are; you’re fooling no one in that 1998 Civic), we do like them in this application. What’s cool is the owner’s Instagram page. On there you can see the car gradually transform from a stock white Z06 into the head turner it is today.
