In the best news this week, besides me going to Road America as a journalist for the first time, Cadillac is evaluating a comeback in GT racing! Granted they still race in a few smaller series like World Challenge, but Cadillac is thinking about coming back to GT3 racing.

Due to the fact that the company’s V Series lineup is ending its production run very soon, the company is looking at other avenues to launch the upcoming V lineup, including building a FIA spec GT3 racer.

The current car, which has won the last two seasons in both drivers and manufacturers championships in World Challenge was built by the same outfit that built the C7.R racecar, and would likely build the new GT3 racer to directly go up against the C7.Rs currently running in TUSC and some WEC races.

According to an interview done with Sportscar365, the Cadillac Racing program manager David Caldwell said, “there’s a huge amount of global opportunity in GT3 and a lot of potential success there.” The team still wants to keep their options open, but Caldwell definitely hints that a GT3 car is very much being considered around the paddock as a good option.

I sincerely hope this comes true. With the many debacles going on in Formula 1 and Rally at the moment, due largely to FiA involvement, sportscar racing is having a mini renaissance. So many manufacturers are coming back to the series, and the more manufacturers involved, the better the racing is going to become. Let’s just all cross our fingers and pray it comes true.
