Cadillac CT5 coupe poised to be luxury Camaro SS we didn’t know we needed.

General Motors patent documents have revealed that as a part of Cadillac’s efforts to rebrand the model line-up, a new car is fast approaching. This is the Cadillac CT5 coupe, a gorgeous new two door, four seat coupe.

Look closely at that shape. If it seems familiar, it should. An educated guess is that this new Cadillac will be rolling on General Motors’ Alpha platform, which underpins the 2016+ Chevrolet Camaro, and the outgoing Cadillac ATS-V.

Looking at the illustration for figure number three, it really is a dead ringer for the Camaro. That said, the team over at Jalopnik also have a few ideas as to what CT5 could be.

It also makes sense that this would be an Alpha platform-based Cadillac. After all, the ATS will be gone in the next year, and the Alpha platform is too good to not make use of for a vehicle of this size. In fact, we suspect this Cadillac CT5 will be an excellent basis for next-generation turbocharged powertrains. We know GM has been developing an all-new range of dual overhead cam, twin-turbocharged V6 and V8 engines for performance applications. It’s not a stretch to think that we will see a CT5 offering the V-Sport twin-turbo V6 as standard fair. From there, an upgraded CT5-V could offer either the upcoming 4.2-liter, or 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.

After driving the Cadillac ATS-V, and then the Camaro SS 1LE, the biggest question the Cadillac had to answer was “why not a V8?” Now, it could be happening. The twin-turbo V8-powered CT5 would certainly have enough grunt to taken on the boosted Germans, like the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63, with it’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Only real question is: When can we drive it?

More news as we get it.
