Camaro SS Owned by Wheeler Dealers Host Headed to CCA Auction
If you’ve ever wanted to buy a car from Mike Brewer, his auction-bound Camaro presents a perfect opportunity.
Most of us are quite familiar with the long-running series Wheeler Dealers. Many of us grew up watching master mechanic Ed China (and now Ant Anstead) performing his magic on various cool vehicles purchased on the cheap by slick-talking host Mike Brewer, in fact. And we most certainly learned a thing or two not just about the art of the deal, but also the mechanical gremlins associated with all sorts of vehicles. But while we watch these cars find new homes at the conclusion of each episode, most of us never the chance to actually buy one.
Until now, that is. Because this beautiful 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS is headed to CCA’s upcoming auction on December 7 in the U.K. And it’s not just a TV rebuild project from Brewer, it’s actually part of his own personal collection. Brewer has owned the 396-equipped SS for the last four years after finding it in Seattle. He reportedly purchased the car for a mere $8,500, then spent upwards of $50k restoring it since. But the story behind this chase is just as interesting as the car itself.
CCA notes that Brewer was approached by the president of a local Camaro club at a show in California years ago, who challenged him to find an original SS. Obviously, Brewer is never one to turn down a dare. But this time, it took him only a mere 12 hours to find a nice, one-owner example. The fact that it was a big block 4-speed car only made the deal that much sweeter.
Of course, Brewer typically isn’t one to leave a car completely stock. Thus, this Camaro sports a few upgrades that only make it better. The original engine was stripped down and rebuilt with a Classic Industries cam and Edelbrock intake and carb. Hedman headers help the big block expel gasses. The original M-21 Muncie gearbox was also rebuilt to handle the extra power.
Next, Brewer turned his attention to the suspension. This Camaro received a host of goodies there, including new coil springs and leaf springs, along with bigger anti-roll bars. Upgraded cross-drilled four-wheel disc brakes slow the classic Camaro down in a hurry. And of course, both the interior and exterior received a full refresh. Along with several coats of attractive Le Mans Blue.
With an auction estimate of roughly $64k-$77k, it looks like Brewer might just eek out a profit on this Camaro, too. But we just hope that the winning bidder at least gets to shake the Wheeler Dealer‘s hand after the hammer falls. After all, that’s what really seals the deal!
