Chopped up C5 Corvette Powered by Two LT4 V8s, Cranks Out 1,300 HP
Twin-engine, custom-bodied C5 Corvette is like nothing you’ve ever seen, and it has the juice to back up those looks.
While most folks are content to simply soup up their Corvettes, others like to watch the world burn. Or, at least, attract the attention of every single person that attended this year’s Hot August Nights show in Reno, Nevada, as is the case with the custom C5 Corvette you see before you.
This truly insane build is the brainchild of a man named Gordon Tronson, who is well-known in the hot rod scene for his many crazy builds, including a quad-engine Ford Econoline and Harley-Davidson motorcycle, as well as a twin-engine Model T. Now, he’s built perhaps the wildest C5 Corvette we’ve ever seen, and it also features more than one powerplant.
Tronson managed to fit not one, but two supercharged GM LT4 V8s behind the cockpit of this Corvette, which produce an even 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque each. That means this super supercar cranks out a combined 1,300 horsepower and 1,300 pound-feet of torque, which, according to AMSOIL (whose booth the car appeared in at Hot August Nights) makes it capable of reaching somewhere between 290-300 miles-per-hour.

We’ll believe that when we see it, but for now, we’ll just soak in this crazy contraption and appreciate it for what it is. Aside from those dual powerplants, it’ll be hard to reach a consensus on the wild, custom bodywork that surrounds it. There isn’t much C5 left here at all, just the center portion, as both the front and rear end are brand new, scratch-built pieces.

The front end is fairly standard-looking, almost Toyota Supra-like. But the rear is a completely different story altogether. The ultra-wide tail section was obviously built that way to house the two V8s side-by-side, with huge air intakes on each side to cool the hungry beasts. From there rear, you’d never know this was actually a Corvette, as it looks like some sort of pricey hypercar with quad exhaust tips protruding from that giant booty.
Love it or hate it, you have to give Tronson credit for building a car that has captivated the entire world at once. It’s hard to stand out at any major show, and yet, he managed to blow everyone’s collective minds at the same time, and for that, we have to give him major props.
