The World’s Smallest Chevy V-8 Totally Cranks

Well, if you think your hobby building skills are unmatched, you may want to think again. Moyer Made, owned by Jim Moyer in Kettle Falls, Washington, builds some incredible, exact to scale engines. One of his best, in our biased opinion, is this 1/6th Scale Chevrolet 327. Let’s take you through its features.

The engine is based on the 1964, 365-horsepower version that came in the same year Corvette. That full scale engine was tore down and measured to be the most accurate as humanly possible to sixth scale.

What makes this even more amazing is that this wasn’t CNC’d as you would expect for something this accurate. Instead, the aluminum block and heads were milled on a Bridgeport-style mill. The five-main crang has real babbit bearings and the camshaft is a 30-30 Duntov.

Dies had to be created for the stamped font cover, oil pan, and rocker arms while the pistons and waterpump were cast out of aluminum. The valve covers were also cast out of aluminum, but an investment cast (also known as lost-wax casting) process was used instead. This amazing engine runs using spark ignition and even has a pressurized oiling and cooling system just like the full scale engine.
