Drag Racing Willys Saves Man’s Life

Willys

We may sometimes joke that speed is what gets us through life, but this next story, speed literally got a family through one of the worst situations imaginable. The man in the video below is named Jon Giles. In 2007, he lost his son, and then found out his wife had breast cancer. In order to stay sane, they needed an outlet. That outlet just happened to be drag racing.

Jon and his wife now race a 1941 Willy hot rod that they’ve subsequently turned into the most bitchin’ ride on the planet. Thanks to a 589 cubic inch Chevy engine, and running on pure alcohol, the Roar Willys is something that makes its presence known at the track

According to Jon, when he launches the car, all he can see is sky for a few seconds, and then hammers back down to Earth where all he sees are his competitors in the rear view mirror. Speed really did save this family.
