LS-Swapped 1969 Datsun Widebody

Essentially a C5 Corvette underneath, this wicked 1969 Datsun widebody is a true track terror.

We’ve certainly seen our fair share of LS-swapped vehicles over the years, with virtually anything one can think of sporting GM power – whether it be mail delivery trucks, forklifts, and even jet skis. Thus, it’s hard to be shocked or surprised by anything at this point, mainly because it seems as if folks have done it all in regards to shoehorning the iconic LS into every kind of thing imaginable. However, this LS-swapped 1969 Datsun widebody that showed up at Holley’s LS Fest Texas is a truly unique machine that stands out for that particular reason alone.

Owned by Anthony Palladino, this 1969 Datsun widebody isn’t really much of a Datsun at all, however, but rather, essentially a C5 Corvette covered by a heavily altered Japanese body. In fact, it actually started life as a fifth-gen Corvette that Palladino used to compete in OUSCI events a few years back. When he got the itch to do something a bit different, that led Palladino down this particular path.

The build started out with the construction of a full tube chassis that Palladino put together himself, at home, in his garage. From there, he added a host of C5 components, including the car’s front cradle and suspension, as well as the rear cradle and suspension and the entire drivetrain, which consists of an LS1 with a Holley SCS universal turbo kit. Inside the cabin, this wicked Datsun also features a 12-inch Holley Pro dash, which makes monitoring the car’s vitals a bit easier.

Competing in the Grand National event at LS Fest, this vintage Datsun has to be good at everything, as it does autocross, drag racing, and the start/stop challenge. Palladino has been competing in that very event for years now, so he’s certainly no newbie, which means that a lot of thought went into this particular build. It may take some time to sort out his newest ride, but it’s clear that this Corvette/Datsun mashup will be a menace for the competition for years to come.
