In a recent installment of Hoonigan’s THIS vs THAT! series, the YouTube channel organized a drag race between two Japanese cars, which pack some serious punch under the hood.

Enthusiasts around the world have a soft spot for LS swaps. Watching such machines race down the track is always an exhilarating experience. When it comes to adrenaline-fuelled races, YouTube channel Hoonigan knows how to organize an exciting bout.  In this video, we see an LS swap 2017 Subaru BRZ take on a 600 HP Honda Civic CX.

The 1992 Civic CX weighs just 2000 lbs and is a front-wheel-drive car. Under the hood of this beast, we find a 2.1-liter motor that hooks up to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Civic CX’s rival houses an LSR V8 under its hood. The BRZ is a rear-wheel-drive sports car and ways 3150 lbs, unlike the Civic.

The motor in the Subaru churns out 650 HP of maximum power and comes complete with a 6-speed manual transmission. The owners of the two cars join the Hoonigan team to discuss their rides. Carlo is the proud owner of the Civic, who reveals that the engine in its car uses 2.1 Stroker Plus aftermarket pistons. In the video, Subaru BRZ’s owner Curtis also reveals that he has a penchant for LS motors.

Curtis’ ride has already received two LS swaps in the past. Furthermore, Zac from Hoonigan also shares his thoughts about the race’s outcome and the 2017 Subaru BRZ in the video.

The Subaru BRZ won the first race even after initially struggling to put the power down. At this point, it became evident that the LS swap BRZ clearly has an advantage over the Civic CX. Therefore the team gives Carlo’s Civic a two-car length headstart to even the playing field. Even with the headstart, the BRZ easily won the race by quite a substantial margin.

We guess there’s some truth to the saying that there is no replacement for displacement.
“I’m gonna have to say the BRZ just because it’s got a dry-sump LS in it like a big one, and I’m a choppy boy, but I feel like the uh Honda is going to give it a run for its money, actually,” explains Zac. He adds, “I don’t think either of you guys is getting any traction.”
