Don’t Need Dixie Chopper to Feel This Thunder

Obviously, we needed to get as much drag racing in as possible before the forecast turned gloomy on Saturday. Friday provided plenty of opportunities to get as much rubber and smoke all over us along the quarter-mile at Beech Bend. From Camaros and GTOs to Ford Fairmonts and Nissan Skylines, if it had an LS or Gen 5+ LT, it was more than welcome to turn it up.

On the other side of the timing tower, autocross and drifting were on the card in the bullring. No matter how each competitor got around before the gathered crowd, they all put on an excellent show for the LS fans.

Saturday, the rain didn’t matter too much for the short course up the hill from the park. After all, these hardcore off-road machines can tear it up no matter the weather or terrain. The Gambler 500 crew brought their own wacky off-roading hoopties to play in the dirt, too, proving you don’t need a custom rig to throw up the rooster tails.

Cameron Aubernon's path to automotive journalism began in the early New '10s. Back then, a friend of hers thought she was an independent fashion blogger.

Aubernon wasn't, so she became one, covering fashion in her own way for the next few years.

From there, she's written for: Louisville.com/Louisville Magazine, Insider Louisville, The Voice-Tribune/The Voice, TOPS Louisville, Jeffersontown Magazine, Dispatches Europe, The Truth About Cars, Automotive News, Yahoo Autos, RideApart, Hagerty, and Street Trucks.

Aubernon also served as the editor-in-chief of a short-lived online society publication in Louisville, Kentucky, interned at the city's NPR affiliate, WFPL-FM, and was the de facto publicist-in-residence for a communal art space near the University of Louisville.

Aubernon is a member of the International Motor Press Association, and the Washington Automotive Press Association.
