MotorTrend Reviews Their Best Camaro v. Mustang Moments
America’s own sports car legends, Camaro and Mustang, have battled it out for decades and the fight is far from over.
Its a story almost as old as time. Well, maybe not that long, but definitely at least a half a century long. The battle between two of the most iconic cars to ever come out of America: the Camaro and the Mustang. We here at LS1Tech have our obvious preference, but don’t get us wrong, we love a good competition. It’s competition like this between these two sports cars that shape brands and allow them to innovate and make better cars. If that’s the the truth, we are all for it.
MotorTrend recently released a video on their YouTube channel going over their top moments of the epic battle between brands and their rear-wheel drive V8-powered weapons.
The first video begins with the 2015 model year, where the GT and SS went head to head. Presenter Carlos Lagos explains how special it is that Ford stepped into the modern automotive era by finally equipping their Mustangs with independent rear suspension. However, he states that not only does he have more fun in the Camaro, but it’s also still more controlled in the corners and the driver feedback is better.
Carlos then explains that the 1LE package provides substantially more value than the GT’s performance pack. Not to mention that the steering wheel, shifter, and the rest of the user controls feel nicer thanks to GM’s signature micro-suede tech.
The next video, racing legend and presenter Randy Pobst goes up for some hot laps at Willow Springs International Raceway with the 2013 SS 1LE and 2013 GT Track Pack. Randy states that although the Camaro is heavier that the Mustang, it feels substantially more planted on the racetrack. Not to mention that the SS has little to no brake dive compared to the GT and brakes faster. Randy’s conclusion is that the Camaro simply a better handling car and the faster lap time speaks for itself.
Even to this day, the rivalry continues on and we love it. As you might imagine, unfinished business is the name of the game when these cars go head to head. If you are curious about other battles MotorTrend has covered over the years, such as the 2016 GT350R vs the 2015 Z/28 or the 2018 SS 1LE vs the 2018 GT, feel free to watch the full video. We enjoyed it and we are sure you guys will too.
