No More C8 Corvettes Produced This Year, GM Says
Sorry folks, the 2021 C8 order books are officially closed. Industry-wide semiconductor shortages are allegedly not to blame.
As we make our way into the second half of this year, a bit of unfortunate news comes out from General Motors in relation to C8 Corvette production. An aggressive economic bounce back has lead to shortages across multiple industries and auto industry is no different.
According to a letter sent out by the company to all Chevy dealers, C8 production is being cut for the rest of 2021 models. Those with allocations will be rolled over to the 2022 model year.
The withdrawal of a proposed “June 2021 outlook guidance” clarifies that this halt is to ensure optimized production for 2022 models in late Q3. Supposedly, the parts shortage GM is dealing with in relation to the C8 is unrelated to industry-wide semiconductor shortage.
When asked, the company explained that they will not “get into specifics other than to acknowledge this is NOT related” to the semiconductor shortage.
Those who were able to place an order below event code 3000 for this year’s C8 will not require any type of cancellation. Other allocations will be evolved into “Available Days Supply (ADS)” allocations for the 2022 year.
Essentially, this means that leftover inventory for the 2021 model year, if any, will be made available for 2022 model year buyers.
Thus, if you were thinking about ordering C8 of your own this year, a bit of patience might need to be necessary. The C8 has had its handful of productions challenges since its inception and this is another the brand hopes to tackle.
We are curious which aspect of the supply chain is holding up production this severely, if not related to electronics. We will update on this situation as more information comes to light!
