RIDE ON! A 450 Horsepower 1998 Pontiac Trans Am

It doesn’t take much to make a fourth generation Pontiac Trans Am into a fierce and fast competitor. In fact, that is one of the most appealing things about nearly any generation of the Trans Am, as well as with its close cousin, the Chevrolet Camaro.

In their stock form, these beasts come with anywhere between 200 and 305 horsepower, which we definitely wouldn’t call slow. Unsurprisingly, with just a few basic modifications these rides can be pushing out a lot more.

So what happens when you do more than “just a few basic modifications?” LS1Tech member BlackDuk98 decided to delve much farther beyond bolt-on modifications and a few simple changes, and go all-out with making his ride as fast as possible. Today we’ll step into his garage and take a closer look at the beast that lies within!

The specific ride that BlackDuk98 owns is a 1998 Pontiac Trans Am, and it is one powerful ride! Powered by a 408 cubic inch LQ4 and putting out 450 horsepower, this Trans Am is a beast.

As it sits now, the ride has Hooker Super Comp long tube headers, a throttle body bypass, a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, a SLP lid and smooth bellows, MSD wires, an automatic TH400 transmission built by Finishline Transmissions and equipped to handle up to 700 horsepower, a B&M shift kit, a Moser 9″ rear end, a TRZ chromoly anti-roll bar, and much, much more!

As BlackDuk98 puts it, this ride is “sponsored, built, driven, and paid for” by him. He is a “one man race team,” and for that we have to give him even more respect. It couldn’t have been easy to get this ride where it is now, but it certainly seems well worth it!

Go stop by his garage and leave some comments, browse the photography, and have a  great time! Be sure to keep your garage up to date and maybe you’ll be featured next week on RIDE ON!
