Turbo LS-Powered Nissan 240SX

This wild Nissan 240SX looks JDM, but it’s packing some serious LS heat under the hood, too.

In the automotive world, there are enthusiasts of all shapes and sizes, no matter what genre we’re talking about. That includes the JDM crowd, which is fixated on Japanese automobiles, as well as the unique modifications that stem from that particular country and culture. For those of us that are more into the V8-powered American vehicle scene, much of that isn’t our proverbial cup of tea, but we can get down with this wild 1992 Nissan 240SX that was hand-built by its owner, Jarin Espinda, and recently featured over at Super Street.

From the outside, the look of this Nissan 240SX is bound to appeal to the tuner crowd, thanks to its wild, over-the-top appearance. Much of that can be attributed to aftermarket parts including a Rocket Bunny V2 body kit, custom paint, and a set of Work VSXX wheels wrapped with Toyo Proxes R888R tires that are heavily cambered to achieve the popular yet controversial “stanced” look. An air suspension helps drop the whole thing on the ground to achieve a look that’s all the craze in the JDM scene.

This type of treatment isn’t usually performed on vehicles that have prodigious amounts of power under the hood, for obvious reasons, but that isn’t the case with this 240SX – not by a long shot. Instead, Espinda has treated his ride to a brand new Texas Speed Performance 427 cubic-inch LS1-based V8, which is fitted with 9.7:1 pistons, a Fast 102mm intake manifold, and the proverbial cherry on top – a Nelson Racing 72mm mirror image T4 turbo.

Running on 11 psi of boost, that powerplant laid down 783 horsepower on the dyno, though a few additional tweaks have it closer to the 800 mark now, with potential for four digits. Regardless, it all flows to the wheels via a CD009 transmission, while upgraded brakes consisting of CTS-V front calipers and dual 300ZX rear calipers help slow it all down.

Ultimately, this custom Nissan is its owner’s dream ride, and one that he impressively pieced together in his own garage in his spare time using YouTube videos as a guide. While it may peeve off purists from multiple sides of the automotive hobby we love, we can certainly appreciate all of that, particularly since Espinda chose the right powerplant for his home-built hot rod.
