Local Motors Rally Fighter for sale Bring A Trailer

Local Motors Rally Fighter is an off-road oddity with an LS3. Though they aren’t cheap, this one sold for a seemingly reasonable price.

There is no shortage of bizarre vehicles that have met the fate of having an LS engine crammed under their hood. The range of oddities with an LS powerplant knows no bounds. We’ve seen it all from little old Honda Civics spanning the range all the way up to a P-51 Mustang. Of course, there is no limit to what you can LS swap. However, an equally interesting subject is limited-run production cars that use LS power. Of course, we all know the iconic Hennessey Venom GT uses an LS powerplant. Additionally, though, there are a handful of others that you may or may not know about. One such limited-production vehicle using LS power is the Local Motors Rally Fighter.

This particular Rally Figher example just sold on Bring A Trailer with a final hammer price of $62,500. That’s pretty solid considering the starting price of one of these was right around $100,000 when new. If you aren’t all that familiar with what the Rally Fighter is, we’ll fill you in!

Local Motors Rally Fighter Interior

What Is this Thing?

The best way to think of the Local Motors Rally Fighter is like a side-by-side UTV on steroids. Your money isn’t buying you a plush ride or high-class interior like you’d find in most cars with a six-figure MSRP. Instead, You’ll find basic cloth seating and rugged carpeting. Though, we wouldn’t fault you for not immediately turning your eyes to the upholstery. Naturally, the first thing most people notice is the full roll cage.

A closer look at the interior brings the plastic dash. Limited push-button controls in the center are a casual reminder that this vehicle is not built for daily comforts. The final nail in the coffin comes in the form of the King coilover suspension, not unlike you’d find on Baja racers. The Rally Fighter is ready to go fast off-road and, if necessary, take up big jumps with ease.

It does feature some modern amenities, though.  You’ll find that it has air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, and even a touchscreen double-DIN stereo. Not bad for something you can huck off some sweet jumps!

The unique body design comes courtesy of designer Sangho Kim, and it is made entirely of fiberglass. Additionally, it sits on top of an all-tube chassis. The whole ensemble weighs in at around 3,800 pounds. That’s definitely not the lightest thing you’ll find, so naturally, it needs some power.

Power? You Got It!

No sweat. Powering this monster is a 6.2-liter GM LS3. It makes 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque. How’s that for adequate power?

Though the opportunity to own this particular Rally Fighter has come and gone, it’s still pretty awesome to see. What’s even cooler is that the Bring A Trailer listing notes the seller is responsible for 11,000 of the 12,000 miles on the car. We love to see something that actually gets driven and used!

So, if you’ve got a spare $60,000 or more burning a hole in your wallet and you’re looking for a new off-road toy that you could take to work every day if you really wanted to, look into a Local Motors Rally Fighter. We promise you’ll be the only one on your block that has one!
