‘Throttle House’ Says the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray Simply Isn’t Sexy

The Throttle House team says the E-Ray just isn’t as desirable as the Z06

The team at Throttle House has a reputation for blunt candor regarding cars. That candor carries onto the latest development in the book of Corvette: the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. Throttle House’s Thomas Holland and James Engelman are quick to point out that the E-Ray develops its potency quite differently from the Stingray and the Ferrari-esque Z06.

The E-Ray produces its 655 horsepower via a combination of the Stingray’s naturally aspirated 495-horsepower 6.2L V8 and a front-mounted 160-horsepower electric motor. “Corolla in the front and ‘Vette in the back.” As silly as it sounds, when the fellas turned the combination into a portmanteau, it created, well, “Corvette.” Shocking.

“They’re wealthy. They’re minted,” the team said about the clientele vying for E-Ray ownership. The Throttle House crew isn’t wrong, either. The E-Ray starts at $106,595, around $8,000 off the sticker for the more engaging Z06 and its magical flat-plane LT5 V8.

With instantly available understeer and multiplied grip, the team points out that the Sea Wolf Gray E-Ray feels safer than the gas-powered C8 models. That should be confidence-inspiring for the ‘Vette fanatics who know a high-revving Z06 might be too much car for their liking.

Despite its controversial new-age appeal, the E-Ray has some serious bragging points

Even with the horsepower disparity between the E-Ray and the Z06, the hybridized Corvette managed to outsprint its mighty sibling. In a dash to 60 mph, the E-Ray bests the Z06 by just 0.1 seconds. The news doesn’t change at the quarter-mile mark, with the E-Ray dispatching the run in 10.6 seconds. It took the Z06 10.7 seconds to perform the same run.

Still, as the fellas at Throttle House concluded, the Corvette loses something in its pursuit of the next great thing. Especially with the ear-pleasing testament to American Ferrari-ism to contend with.
