Giant Buick Roadmaster wagon makes the perfect vessel for GM’s biggest and baddest crate engine ever.

General Motors just revealed its craziest crate engine to date – the ZZ632 – a beastly naturally-aspirated powerplant that displaces 632 cubic inches (hence the name) and pumps out an amazing 1,004 horsepower and 876 pound-feet of torque on pump gas. When this monster mill launches early next year, it’s a safe bet that more than a few hot rodders will stuff it into all sorts of things. Personally, we hope one of them will be a 1991 Buick Roadmaster gasser woody like this one dreamed up by artist Abimelec Arellano.

The Buick Roadmaster wagon was, at its essence, a massive and comfy hauler that was designed to do at least one thing very well – haul a bunch of people and cargo from point A to point B. Transforming it into a gasser with a giant big block under the hood, well, that’s what hot rodding is all about. The wood paneling works with the whole theme as well, giving it a truly old-school look that’s befitting for the preferred body style of American families before the SUV came along.

Of course, the ZZ632 is so massive that it probably wouldn’t fit under the hood, so Arellano cut a giant hole in it for the air cleaner to protrude through. On the plus side, the owner would likely want to show off his new engine in all its glory, and we personally prefer it with the hood off. The giant mill breathes through open headers that exit via the front fender wells, making some glorious noises at the track, and there’s room down there thanks to the jacked-up front end.

The big Buick wagon rolls on a set of American Racing Torq-Thrust wheels to complete the old school look, which are wrapped with big and little tires in the rear and front. The solid front axle up front is a gasser staple, and Arellano even gave his creation a name – “School Run” – appropriate given the fact that it can haul the kids to class in true style.

Of course, this is nothing more than an imaginary exercise, but it’s undoubtedly a fun one. A giant motor deserves a giant vehicle to move around, and this mating seems like a real match made in heaven.
