Project Budget 10 Second Camaro Thread
Anyway I'd say wire brush those plugs and reuse... you should also sell those headers, they would clean up OK and someone who needs the emissions crap could probably send them off to a ceramic coating place and end up with something better than stock old manifolds... that and ur "Off road" Y pipe should help defer some costs... Otherwise lookin at the rest of ur plans, might be a could time to replace the motor mounts with some poly ones since you have everything exposed, a quick jacking on each side would give u plenty of room and they are like $50 at JEGS...
Glad to see those other headers out. Sorry you had to spend some time sanding and painting the LTs. but cant beat free headers really
Did ya get the block off plates on that we made yet?
But they should have built this place with bigger garages. My GTO barely fits in the garage. Have about a foot space all the way around it. Although I did manage to prime and block sand the GTO in the garage...but never again
I was figuring using a wire brush and maybe some break cleaner to help get the carbon buildup off?
I pulled the EGR tube, I still need to put the plates on, was going to do it, but got sidetracked

Just waiting on header gaskets and start bolting everything back in place. Im thinking of running some bullets off the headers with turn downs for least power loss since I need some form of a muffler as this will still be street driven.
Just ordered some American Racing Torque Thrust II's for the Z/28. Went with 15x4s for the front and 15x8s in the back. Hopefully they will fit (sales rep says he puts them on all the time on 4th Gens, but Ive heard that before
) So provided they fit (I know I will have to grind on the calipers some, but thats a given) I have some 28x10.50 MT ET Drags sitting in the garage I will try and squeeze in there and see how long the 10 bolt holds up. May go with Moser axles to help? Front tires and rims expected in mid week so I will definatly have pics when those come into work. Im getting excited as the weather starts warming up, would like to make it to the track soon, provided this rain stops at some point.
So dont worry, pics and updates coming soon, probably about a months worth all at once though. Still need to finish the LS1 lid conversion. I need to trim the underside of the hood, if anyone in the NW Chicago burbs wants to give me a hand with that, I dont have any dremels or whatever and Im not the best with getting a straight cut. PM me and Ill provide the beer

Still on the list for the winter/spring 09 mods are: 8 point cage, 150 shot, 847 cam, stock heads and intake ported and polished, stall (th350 trans swap?) and gears.
First I took a wire wheel and that took off all the old paint, just had to go slow so the wheel wouldnt gouge the metal. Then cleaned it all up with soap and water and let it dry. Then, I bought some red, white, and black duplicolor touch up paint. Found if you go a little heavy, it doesnt leave brush marks. Got a little paint over the metal edges, which I fixed by carefully sanding off with 320 grit sandpaper. The 320 leaves some sanding marks so I dry sanded and followed by wetsanding with 1500 grit sandpaper until all the marks where gone.
Looks like new, should look alot nicer on the Camaro!

Best I could do on a 15x8 wheel was 4.5 BS compared to the favored 5.5 BS. So back to American Racing those wheels go.
Now going to go with the Weld ProStars in a 15x3.5 for the front and 15x8 in the back. These were actually my first choice but if the Torque Thusts would have fit, I would have paid half the price. So cant wait till these get in, I need to order open lug nuts and longer wheel studs in the meantime. Anyone know what studs to go with?
Had several friends stop by for a mini mod day and thrash on my car to get it drivable. Got the LS1 Lid/Radiator Support to fit on my Camaro. My friend brought over a cutoff wheel and we cut out the bracing under the cowl section of the hood and test fitted the lid and to our surprise it fit like a glove Now just have to go to AutoZone and pick up the temp sensor to fit into the lid. I will get some better pics soon, just took these from a cell phone.
Parts I used...
LS1 Radiator Base
SLP Lid
LS1 Bellow (probably replace with smooth one down the road)
K&N Filter

Some other pics of friends cars/trucks that stopped by and helped. Included a LS1 Trans Am and a LS1 Formula. And yes, we did finish the 24 pack of Mountain Dew! lol

I know I need to detail my engine bay out bad, but now that the Camaro is driveable, shouldnt be a problem. I need to come up with a better way to keep the plug wires from touching the headers. Any other ideas other than the zip ties Im using?
