I did my sample pieces today....

From the left to the right as follows:

No Clear, 1 coat of spray can clear, 2 coats of spray can clear, 1 coat of PPG automotive clearcoat on a CTS-V emblem i wrapped.

Its a little hard to tell on the CTS-V emblem, but the clear filled in all of the texture and basically made it look one solid color. So i would say using a high quality clear is not an option.

I actually put a 3rd coat on with the spray can clear and it came out even better, and if i decide to use this stuff then thats what ill do.

you should get a needle and poke those rises in the vinyl and then push them down. it looks dumb with wrinkles and folds.

I know. It was my first time and I was doing it by myself. Would have been much easier with someone else to hold the heat gun.

67goatman455- thats di-noc right? that looks great. I like the texture filled in,, just like real carbon fiber....
this is why I like texture di-noc w/ clear over the hydrodipping process,,, hydrodipping will not reflect light and give a real 3D look.

Lotus289- what do you like better clear or not... I want the whole subtle 3d look. I find the dry look like in the manifold above too dry looking.

InsaneAuto86- I would try and clear over your job... it will make the wrinkles look less noticeable im sure if you get enough coats on.... worth a try if you wanted to take it off anyhow.

I love the look dry. I kinda like the look cleared. It really depends on the application. I too love the subtle look in certain area, but leaving the Di-Noc dry is how it was designed and looks great by itself. As I think I stated before too, I didn't put enough clear on the light switch to completely cover the texture. So if you run your finger over it you can still feel it. I need to do another piece (maybe this weekend) and put enough clear on it to completely cover. But whatever it is, it's probably gonna take 7+ coats to fill in the texture, then build it up so it can be wetsanded.

I may not be a perfectionist, but I do pay close attention to detail. Having said that, I still haven't seen any good pics of the Di-Noc applied well to Camaro interior pieces. I'd like to since I know a couple of people who have shown interest in in it (cheaper), but so far, I'm still not convinced (e.g. posted intake manifold project, and posted radio bezel project).

you think this stuff will look weird if you had half of the accessories in your interior covered in it and then your center console hydrodipped w/ the carbon fiber pattern?
