They are white whenever the headlights are on.

I wonder if the AO set stays white when the DRLs are on and only flashes amber when the turn signals are activated? Did anybody order the Amber Off type instead of Amber White?

No--AO simply means "amber-off"--when you activate your turn signal, it goes AMBER - OFF - AMBER - OFF etc. instead of AMBER - WHITE - AMBER - WHITE etc.

The reason our cars don't work perfectly with switchbacks is the way GM wires them...different than conventional setups where with headlights/parking lights off the bulb is white.

The only fix is a flasher the is electronic. NOT THERMAL. One flahser is hazards and one works the left and right turn signals. The electronic can be purchased for around 30 dollars. Do a google search.

I know what the difference is between AW and AO, just not on these cars. In a perfect world, AO goes DRL WHITE - AMBER - OFF - AMBER - OFF - DRL WHITE and AW goes DRL WHITE - AMBER - WHITE - AMBER -DRL WHITE. I kind of don't want to buy switchbacks now if there's no way to make the DRLs white. The white DRLs was a big selling point to me.

You're only partially correct... They're $5 each, not $30 each. Tridon EL12.

Update from Autolumination. They sent me a link to help diagnose the problem. http://autolumination.com/switchback_wiring.html Played aroudn with the troublesome bulb today and basically couldn't get it to illuminate at all. I even noticed what looks like a small burnt area on the circuit board and it definitely had a burnt smell to it. I've sent this info to them as well as a pic. Hopefully they will get back to me soon and continue to help resolve the issue.

Into the bulb/base? Doubt it. It is a solid formed epoxy/plastic type base. Unless it was in there from before I had it. It has been 80* and sunny each day they have been in my car.

Got an email from Tracy today. Gave me a RMA number to send the defective bulb back. I'll keep you all updated as things progress.

the EL12s are cheaper from autolum than they are at NAPA. 4.99/ea at autolum and 10.99/ea at NAPA (for me at least)

I wanted to get the locally incase they didn't work and I needed to return them. Also, I wanted to make sure the ones I got still clicked when the signal was activated. I don't think the autolum ones click.
