That needs paint im syre it will catch. If your exhaust is stainless it wont rust.... I cant with low quality stainless. Once the winter is over jack the car up and clean underneath it. I have a lift and every 6 months i get degreaser and coat the bottom and spary it off with a power washwer. Then i use a beach towel with a bucket of soap and water and rinse off the bottom of the car. Then i get a electric leaf blower and a air hose and dry it. Then the underneath looks like a show car.

That's what I was afraid of.

Junkman i'll have an answer for you tomorrow. I guess the reason I was hopeful I might not have to paint is because it got significantly better before rubbing compound.

If Summit is selling it, I would bet it's low quality Chinese made junk.

Like I said, it looks a lot worse than you originally stated. If your fingernail is catching in it, I would bet it's into or through the clear coat. The only way to fix missing paint is more paint.

I didn't even think of that, you're right.

Cool, I'll have to rinse it down sometime this week if it ever warms up a little out here. Thanks for the help Junkman.

Remember to wax it more often then normal so you have a nice layer of wax so the salt is not on the clear coat.

So I tried the nail test today, it didn't really catch like I expected it to but the finish is definitely rougher in the affected area. Here's a pic of the car from car away, the damage is hard to notice. Note, the damage is on the middle 1/3 of the fender and door and runs about halfway down the door. Maybe it just looked worse in the close ups that it really is?

The fact that your fingernail catches at all indicates that the scratch is deep. It you want to make the damage as least noticeable as possible, you need to follow the instructions in my videos that I linked to earlier. That's the safe way to address scratches in your paint.

Are you talking about the matte or satin finishes? They look similar but a different.

I'm thinking of painting my car with a satin clear coat, but using a regular wax would just make it shine to much right? Is there a special wax you use for satin clears?

Ive talked to some paintshops guys.... They told me matte is hard to maintain. No regular wax, no soap with wax or shine, have to keep it clean as much as possible and no swirl mark correction. You can search matte paint sealent. Remember matte takes alot of maintaining....

I would think that a matte clear would accept wax like any other clear but be less shiny. You still have to treat the clear and protect it, right?

My drivers side window has "rub spots" from going up and down. Is there something I can do to fix this up?

Yes but matte has more pours and purpose imprefections to make it look less shiney. if you use regular wax it will fill the pours and make the paint look like crap. So you mist use a certain wax and selant. Also good thing to wash it as often as possible.

Use turtle wax polishing compound and a cotton cloth. They come right off.

If you do any waxing or buffing with ANYTHING on matte paint, you will make it shine. That totally defeats the purpose of painting it matte in the first place. A person who can get a matte paint job and maintain it properly i someone who has more cars than brain cells and keeps the car in a environment in which dust dose not exist. Basically, the ultimate garage queen.

This guy qualifies...

Some one makes a product you put in a bulding where no moisture of mold or dust will go in. It is a box thing you pull you car into then seal the doors. Or if you can find a train box like i did to make into a paint both and modify it you will get no dust in there.
