Wow Jeff, your thread is nearing a year old....NICE! Once I get my rear quarter painted, I NEED to get a detail done lol. It's been too long and I work too much to do it myself. Been a minute since the bbq at dude's house years ago with the OG Z28 lol.

Wow, I didn't realize I've been following the thread for a year.

Jeff, as a celebration for having the thread a whole year, you should detail my car for free.

Just wanted to say thanks to Jeff again for keeping this thread strong. I finally got around to removing the spoiler on my WS6 and did a full correction on it. 95% correction with tons of gloss! Will be posting a write up soon when my schedule allows.

Jeff - You try those LC MF pads yet? They're awesome!

I've been following this HOW long!!! Great thread. Love all the info I've learned from it.

I've got another question. Do you guys do anything special for washing your Microfiber towels? I put mine in the washing machine on HD cycle with HOT water and an extra rinse. Then dry them without any softner. Just want to make sure that's the best way to make sure you get all the residule crap out of them.

Sorry if it's been asked before and I missed it.

I use the regular/soft wash with cold water then dry on low heat. I also use MF towel detergent, I had issues before with streaking just using regular detergent

Man I didn't even see those. How do they compare to the Meg's MF pads?

Has anyone used the Hybrid pads?

GoFast, what is a good wheel/tire cleaner that can be used on aluminum wheels, I used eagle wheel/tire cleaner this weekend, and it left nasty spots I have to spend 3 hours polishing off

Polished aluminum is finicky and stains very easily. If your wheels aren't really bad, caked on brake dust, I would use car shampoo on them first with a good wheel brush; Daytona, Whoolie or something of the like. An incorrect brush can cause damage too.

If that doesn't get all of it off I would then try the Sonax wheel cleaner. As for the tires a good APC will do a good job. To get the tires really clean use Tarminator and a MF rag.

I have seen in a few other threads that a lot of people like the Flitz(I think I am spelling that right) cleaner for polished aluminum. Personally I haven't had any experience with it but I am going to buy some soon for a car I'm doing.

The trick with polished aluminum is don't let it get really dirty. That way you can use a mild shampoo or cleaner and don't run the risk of staining them.

As far as I know that's the only place to get it. I know places like Auto Zoo, Advanced, places like that don't carry it. I am out right now and need to pick some more up. Autogeek is having a Labor Day sale this weekend.

Have to look for that towel detergent. Thanks Maybe my extra rinse is helping that though. Cause I don't have any issues. I was more or less just curious what others were doing.

Default Zaino Products

I have an '02 yellow CE trans am which I bought new. It's a garage queen with 6000 miles & only comes out in nice weather. After I got the car, I used dawn to wash it down then applied Zaino Z5 followed by 2 coats of Z2. I used the Z5 because I noticed some very light scratches which the product claims to hide. I know after reading the posts; don't try & hide-remove. They can be seen only under proper light if you look for them. Didn't see many reports those paticular Zaino products. Is there something better I can be using or can I just keep Layering on the Z2 as Sal claims? I do think the finish, gloss, etc. could be a little better. To prove I've read the posts my best approach might be to; strip with dawn, use M205 with a PC 7424XP, wipe down with alcohol, apply Blackfire Wet Diamond followed by Crystal Seal. Thank you!

You just answered your own question. If you are going to just use one compound you might want to look into the Menz which is designed for harder clear coats and still finishes out well. Just depends on how bad the car is to begin with.

I have a question about polishing glass. If I use a buffer/porter cable with glass polish will it get rid of those annoying mark that the windshield wipers leave?

Default Liquid cleaners

I have a '94 Cadillac which has a great factory paint job in fairly good shape. Before using a sealer I wash then use Mothers Gold Pre-wax cleaner by hand. Want to get the PC and use for this along with paint correction. What LC flat pad should I use with that product or should a different procedure be used other than clay? I also have an '02 Trans Am. Should both those cars be treated as having a hard clear coat when selecting paint correction products? Thank you!

It takes a special buffing pad to buff glass. We do it at my shop. (Novus Auto Glass). Since it's a lot harder then clear paint. Also if you can feel it with your finger nail it's too deep, and it will always leave a distortion where the scratch/wiper mark is. Best thing to do is replace the glass.

^ Exactly. Eastwood makes a good glass buffing kit, I got my kit on ebay for somewhere around $60. Keep in mind it will take a lot of time and effort to get the glass looking nice again. Might be better off getting a new windshield.

Has anyone ever used CarPro's TRIX, iron and tar remover? I was wondering how well it works. Would this be a good substitute for clay barring? It seems that it would work just as well, if not better, and a lot easier too. Thanks.
