Default Fixed a badly detailed Jeep....a lesson in getting what you pay for

This forum member reached out to me after having an amateur detailer try to correct the paint on his Jeep. Not only was the correction performed badly, but numerous areas were not done at all. Detailing done cheap has its consequences.

Most of the exposed screws had heavily built up compound and/or wax residue. The textured satin top had been waxed despite the owner's request that it not be. This resulted in pretty bad staining, a good amount of which would not come out. The areas that had been corrected were heavily covered in DA micromarring as the previous detailer could not handle the hard clear on the Jeep. Other areas were not done at all. It was originally scheduled for a one step correction but once I saw its condition I knew it would not restore the finish enough. So I brought out Ryan to help me restore it as best as possible. We logged in a significant amount of time to fix this Jeep.

Upon arrival it was pretty dirty

Plenty of wax residue on the top.....

Considerable buildup in all the screws

After a full wash and decontamination

Staining survived through the wash and decon

The front end had been heavily corrected and heavily marred without being finished down. Much micro marring/haziness was present.

It was clear no correction work had been done here on the sides

Heavy waterspots on the right side

Wheels were tidied up

With most of the compounding finished, Ryan and I took it out in the sun for some pics

Waterspots on the glass still needed to be polished out

After final polishing

Final pics out in the sun after applying wax and touching up the final details

My favorite shot with the owner looking pleased at the freshly restored Jeep

Thanks for looking!

I feel really bad for owners who have to go through this and as a perfectionist, Im appalled at what ALOT of shops are ok with letting go. At least in the end this guy was able to get exactly what he paid for. Nice save.

nice work as usual, but I'm sorry this guy shouldn't own a Jeep, any guy that would pay to have this done to a jeep obviously has no plans to take it off road and that makes the guy a total poser.

Very nice job. What did you use on the Jeep's top and black fender flares? I've always been confused as what to use on them, especially like this one that was all stained from someone waxing it. Armor-all?

That's one of the most ignorant comments I've read on here in a while.

Just because a guy isn't going to drive 200mph on the street means he shouldn't buy a new GT500 or Viper?

Owning something you like the look of and wanting to take care of it makes you poser? Mmmkay...

On Topic: What, if anything, did you use on top and flares? I'm curious if a good plastic protectant like UTTG or PERL might have helped with the staining.

Any tips on removing wax from those screw holes?

Also, I'm curious as to why you didn't dress the tires? When you do add tire dressing what do you use?

That works great. Also, if you have access to high pressure streamer, that will blast out everything nicely.

Some people just do not know any better. As Jeff stated before; You get what you pay for.

I must say though, thank you to the low budget details like what he had gotten first to give people like you business though, haha.

On to the Jeep, it looks a lot better.

Great turnaround!

Waxing the top is hard to believe, but as mentioned, some "detailers" are just clueless.

I believe the quote goes:

"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur."
