I did the wire mod yesterday since I had access to all sorts of tools and decided to write up a tutorial for the people that don't know how to go about doing it.

forgot to add the rubber groment to prevent the sheet metal from rubing on it

 

I didn't forget none of the auto parts places had the size I needed so I have to make a trip today to home depot to pick up a small piece of hose.

Although, if you file it smooth enough, I find it hard to believe that anything will get cut on it. That thing is perfectly smoooth better safe than sorry I guess

 

I've been looking at doing this mod for a few months, but have some doubts as to the finished product. Are the wires actually in the open wheel well, or is there something between them and the tires, besides the electircal tape? Granted I don't go looking for pot holes, my car is lowered and sometimes, does bottom out on the front end a little bit. Just wondering about this before I look further into doing the mod. I do like how it cleans the engine bay up though.

 

The wires are actually sandwiched between the frame and the wheel well cover. So between that and the wire wrapping, you'll be fine

Ya, question -- I thought folks had to add like 15" of wire to do this ... what did you do that was different?

You don't HAVE to but every method has its down-side. If you don't cut then the wires decide where you have to put the hole and what size hole to make. I also didn't like the idea of putting tension on the wires.

By making the loom longer I could control EXACTLY where the wires went. lengthening wires is really no big deal.

 

No cutting. He cut the whole big enough to pass the connectors through the hole.

Do you really need to wrap those wires up like a mummy with electrical tape? I would hate to some day have a need to get at them, and run into miles of tape to get to them. Also, what are people doing with the holes left by the clips that held them in place? I would hate to have holes in my fenderwell like that.

 

I wrapped them all up to better be safe than sorry. If you use electrical rubber tape, its a piece of cake to get it off. As far as the holes left by the clips, you can get some plugs at autozone (expandable ones) and plug them up.

 

I only drilled a 1 inch hole, I didn't want to hack my baby up to bad

 

whats the smallest hole you can drill without cutting the wires?
