Default talked to gm about roof bubbles

My car is an 02 z28 and gm told me since I was the second owner they couldnt help me . They will not cover it under corrosion warranty cause they said the roof is not metal I know that but what happens when the bubbles pop. The district warranty rep didnt even look at it. So I have to call a guy that is over him tomorow to see what he says . I also wanted to know what argument should i use. I also need to ask the mods if it is ok to print a thread on hear abot how many people have roof bubbles to show this guy if he comes to look at my car. Sorry for the rant but this is messed up they need to issue a recall or something on this cause I get tired of people askin me if the car has been wrecked cause the bubbles

More than likely it is a battle you wont win.. The majority of people that have been able to get it under a warranty has fallen under the "know the right people in the right place" or just lucked up in General. I have horendous bumps on my 2001 SS I had a body shop take all that paint off, sand it down, grind through it and try to fix it that way. Nope, bubbles came back after a few days in the sun. What causes the bubbles is because there are 3 peices to our roof, they used 2 different chemicals to bond those 3 peices together, and the chemicals didnt mix together. Thus causing moister ect over the years to get in, liquify and thus cause the horendous bubbles.

But anyhow, goodluck, keep us posted on how you fare out and what you decided.

They're not talking about hardtop F-bodies, they're talking about the sail panel.

And for the record, my 2000 Z28 was starting to get them badly when I sold it. My 02 Z28 already has a decent sized one that has popped.

Scot is correct, not only do the Hard tops get them but t-tops cars also, its the roof panel (sail-panel to be precise) .

My car is a 98 and I saw the beginnings of the bubbles early on of my owning the car. I am the original owner, bought it in 98 with 4 miles on it. So I told the dealer about it as soon as they were clearly visible which was about 2 years after I bought the car. They noted it and told me to observe it. After 4 years it looked really bad...so I decided to see if I can get it fixed. Sure enough, they chopped off the whole roof and put a new one on it, eventhough my 3 year warranty had expired. Now, 4 years later, the bubbles are back. The Service manager said that he doubts GM would do it again for me.....hmm...well....why the hell not! THEY put it on, my car is in the garage 24/7 and hardly ever sees sunlight. One of these days, when I am bored and extremely aggravated, I might pick a fight with the dealer again.

If you could give us the TSB number so we could tell the dealers it would be great, if you have a TSB # and it has not been done they have to do it if your roof is bubbling

I think I was one of the first in Indiana to get mine fixed.. Locally they wouldn't do **** I had to drive the car 63 miles in the winter (w/salt on the roads) to get it replaced and the guy said they would take care of it. I went back a month later and picked the car up and it was as good as new.
2nd owner, Took a copy of the TSB and called the 800 chevy number.

I would really like to know what percentage of 98-02s this is happening to. Although this is obviously a significant problem, I can't pin down how widespread the problem is. You would think this would be a problem on everyone's vehicle (the tops are all put on the same way). Is it just a question of time before it happens to all of us? Just thinking out loud.

Are there no lawyer members who can give us some directions ? It hasn't started on mine yet, but it seems like it will, and I plan on keeping it for quite a while. Too many mods left to do

My 2001 ss coupe went into the shop yesterday to have roof replaced. They are going to cover half the cost. Guess I should fell lucky. It's getting repaired in Blair Ne. at a pontiac dealership. None of the chevy dealers in omaha would fix it.
