I don't know what kind of volumes these hood manufacturers are doing, but it seems that they could contact some of the gas strut suppliers and find one to them make something just for their application. If the strut supplier already makes the oem or aftermarket strut for the car it's really as simple as changing the setting of the gas charge in their assembly process. Of course, a special run of anything will cost more than oem.

I didn't read every post but I saw Suncoast pop up occasionally. One item to clarify...under the original owner Suncoast sold hoods that required lighter weight struts but not anymore. The hoods we produce today use the stock mounting hardware.
Now to the original question on where to get struts. I'm posting a FAQ response that is on our website:
I hope this helps.

Now to the original question on where to get struts. I'm posting a FAQ response that is on our website:
Q: I have a fiber glass hood from [one of your competitors] (name removed). I do not have any lift supports right now, because I can't find ones that will work with [this cheap] (expletives removed) fiber glass hood. The stock ones I had were too strong. Do you have lift supports that will work in this situation? Thanks.
A: We get this call quite often. If only buyers knew the real cost of that low price hood! Suncoast hoods are built stiffer, tougher and always use the factory springs or struts.
Call Orr & Orr Inc. at 773-254-0022 or visit online at www.orrorr.com. They make hood struts (gas springs). We've recommended them many times over the years and found they often have a suitable gas spring. You'll need to know the weight of your hood and the length required. Ask for a recommendation to match your application. Good Luck!

Have had my VFN Sunoco hood for over 2 years now using the factory struts. I removed the latch/handle by the locking mechanism. When I pull the hood release my hood lightly lifts/pops up. I then have to go to the the hood and lift the hood up. When I go to put it down I lightly push the hood down. When I go to lock it down I lightly push down on the hood. Not trying to start crap. But I wonder if some dont have the hood aligned or adjust correctly? Again I am not using the latch. So if and or when I release the hood it could in theroy fly all the way open but does not. It lifts just enough so that I can the open it by hand. Personally not worried about the stock struts with how smoothly the hood opens here.

In a day or too ill be geting my other hood strut and ill be able to know for sure if mine will work. I bought one and it fits, it opens all the way and shuts fine too. But only having the one lift support on, it wont hold the hood up. I only bought the one side so i could make sure it will work, i think it will and once i get another i will know for sure.

Hi Everyone.
I wanted to post up about the struts that some guys are having problems with this. I wanted to apologize for the delay in responding to this thread - we have been extremely busy with moving. We have settled in a bit now, so it'll be easier for me to jump on the board more often again.
We have spoken to a very small handful of guys who have had problems with their struts. These were complaints on some of the earlier hoods that we sent out. Because it was brought to our attention, we have since then, altered our mold and beefed up the area where the struts attached to and have not heard more complaints about this. We believe these modifications have fixed any problems anyone may have had with the struts.
The factory struts are okay to use with our hoods, and we occasionally have an install here at the shop which we will use the factory struts on the hood with no problems after.
We have told customers who questioned about the weight difference between the two hoods (stock and ours), that if they feel uncomfortable with the stock struts on the hood, then they may wish to change to a lighter tension shock. To my knowledge I do not know of any company that offers the struts with their hoods. But, we are working on offering Performance products at our new location and one of the products we are looking into is lighter struts for these cars. This will give guys the option of either using the stock strut or go with a lighter strut if they choose. As soon as we have them available for sale, I will have the information posted and we will offer these as an added option for our hoods.
I also wanted to address the issue I read about the WS9 hood. We generally do not receive negative feedback on our parts, but we take every complaint seriously. We have been working on a new mold for our WS9 hood. This will ensure that there will be no additional problems with fitting this item.
Thanks Phantomzer0 for helping us out on this thread - sorry again for the delay on jumping on here.

Thanks a lot man! Just got mine and they work perfectly with my Sunoco hood. Same size as stock. I went with the 35 lb force.
