Default Steering wheel swap

Did anyone ever swap out the stock steering wheel for something else, say a steering wheel from another GM vehicle? I wanna keep my airbag for safety reason that why I said "a steering wheel from another GM vehicle". I'm kinda like to my Grand Prix steering wheel coz the airbag is not as big as F-body.

Anyone?

Get ready to pay a hell of a lot of money. If the new steering wheel has an airbag in it, it is NOT cheap

It can be had for cheap, especially if you go through ebay. It cost me 100$ to get a wheel and air bag from a 2002 SS to fit into my 97 SS.

Is 98-99 different than 01-02? I really don't like the my 99 Bird's steering wheel. The airbag is way too big. But the horn buttom is way too small. I can get a Grand Prix steering wheel and airbag for cheap. That's why I asked. I just wanna make sure it'll work b4 I tear everythign down.

Horn button too small? On the 2001-2002, the airbag casing is the horn button. The whole thing pushes in. Do you have pics of this small horn button?

I'll post pic later today, going to zoo with my wife.

Let me explain, in my GP, the whole airbag will horn no matter where I push in. I always hold my steering wheel at 8 o'clock position. I can just push the airbag with my thumb to horn at 8 o'clock position.

But in my bird, I HAVE TO push the exact little horn icon on the airbag to horn, which located in between 9-10 o'clock position. I experience so many time that when I need to horn, it doesn't because 8 o'clock position doesn't work. After I move my hand back to the correct spot, it's too late I already avoid the situation.

Oh, I was compare my 99 Firebird to my 00 Grand Prix. I can get a 03 Grand Prix steering wheel to match it.

I think its hinged at the bottom. The horn indentation isn't a button. Its just a logo. You can put your palm at top-dead-center and tilt the whole thing in. Thats what I do.

'97-'99 is the same, '00-'02 is a little nicer with the stereo controls in them.

My 99 has a steering wheel radio control too. I just hated that the firebird airbag is waaay too big.

Also, the rim on my GP is thicker which makes it a nicer grab.

i agree with what youre saying. you might be able to use a GP or grand am steering wheel, but youll need to see the bolt pattern. chances are the bag itself uses a similar signal, but you might want to read the electrical layout of the system first.

Ive been trying ot find a suitable wheel for my camaro with a chevy logo, not a pontiac one. the corvette one wont work because believe it or not, they never came with stereo controls. you pontiac people are lucky, you have more options.

Colbalt SS wheel? Sort of "plain" but much smaller and it's VERY easy to hit the horn. FWIW though, most wheels from GM should work as far as the splines. Only problem I am having with bolting up my thirdgen wheel is interference with the clock spring.

^^I'd do that wheel.....if it can fit in my 95 T/A! It looks similar to the G6 and G8 Wheels....as far as the radio controls.
