Smoked Side Marker Lights?
So here is my idea. I am thinking of purchasing stock replacement lamp lenses for the front (amber) and rear (red) side light on my TA. I then want to smoke them with some tint paint. I was originally thinking of smoke painting some clear lenses, but $100 for a set of 4 is kinda crazy when I can get stock replacement ones from gmpartsdirect for $45 for all 4. How do you think the amber and red lenses would look on a black car if they were smoked pretty dark? I am not planning on blackingout my car, I just want them to be more low key. Opinions? Thanks!

Re: Smoked Side Marker Lights?
I was actually going to do it when I went home in June. I bought some of that NiteShades stuff. I sprayed some on a plastic lense to something, just to test it out, and that stuff rules. I never got around to doing to my car though, dad kept on saying it was a bad idea/illegal... whatever, I might have to do it anyway. Sorry couldn't be more help.

You can either get this stuff http://www.afterthoughtsauto.com/vhtnigpain.html from afterthoughts or go to your local hoppy store and pick up the spray paint they use to tint model car windows. I think the 2nd option would be cheaper. I am going to check out a hobby store soon. I'll post pics when I get it done.

Please post any thoughts or experiences on this. I am also considering this, along with the tail lights... But I DON'T want the typical GTS blackouts that make it impossible to see light though. (You know what I mean, how many times have you nearly rear ended someone with blackouts because you have no idea they are braking or turning)

Re: Smoked Side Marker Lights?
I've done it to mine and AlexWS6 did it to his WS6...i'll get him to post pics in here. Mine's on a silver car and just looks blacked out. I switched over to clear as you can see in the sig pic, but the local PD is making me go back to the stock/tinted ones. I don't know about doing the taillamps though. Leaves kind of a dull finish.

If you could get your friend to post pics of the smoked stock ones I would be a happy LS1er! Which product did you use to smoke them? Did you use the afterthoughts paint or something else? Thanks!

Nightshades here too, got the idea from Tullis. I did the 3rd brake light as well as the 4 sidemarkers.

Awesome. I found some pics of AlexWS6's WS6 and it look pretty RAD! I think I am sold!
McTullis: Did your lights still light up somewhat bright through the tint? How many coats did you put on? They look super dark. Thanks for the pic.

i guess I am still in search of a blacked out rear light that glows as bright as stock. (Hmm... maybe a custom fabbed LED enclosure...)

After consorting with the professional (Tullis) I also blacked mine out with the VHT Nightshades....5 coats per lens and I just used the stock ones that came on the car.

I used Nightshades also. It came out good. The light shines through very well. I also did the third brake light. I just bought tail light covers for the tail lights. My car is black also. I have since went to clear corners, but kinda thinking of going back to the tinted corners.
