No Front Plate States?
Ok... here's the deal. I hate front plates, and I think they're pointless, and I want to do something about it.
I live in Texas, and front plates are required here. I did a test to see how long it would take me to get pulled over without one, and it only took 3 days. Now, I know there are a lot of states in which front plates aren't required. I also know that there are some states in which you can license your car without being a resident (Nebraksa, for example).
People license their car in Nebraska because it's usually cheaper than their own state. If you pay attention, a lot of rental cars have Nebraska plates for this reason. Unfortunately, Nebraska requires front plates.
What states do not require front plates? I'll start a list and add to it as posts come up.
Alabama
Arizona
Arkansas
Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Indiana
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Michigan
Mississippi
New Mexico
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Tennessee
West Virgina
What states can you register your vehicle in without being a resident?
Nebraska
Pennsylvania???
Keep this going, and when we find a state that meets the criteria, we'll be able to get rid of our front plates without getting tickets all the time.
Just to state a couple facts... No, it is not legal to put your plate in your windshield, nor move it from it's original location in any way, shape, or form.

Pennsylvania requires no front plate. I know of alot of guys with exotic cars that lives in NY & NJ and license their Lambo's or Ferrari's etc. here in PA so they don't have to use an ugly front plate

So, I did a quick google search and came up with: Alabama Arizona Arkansas Delaware Florida Georgia Indiana Kansas Kentucky Louisiana Michigan Mississippi New Mexico North Carolina Oklahoma Pennsylvania South Carolina Tennesee West Virgina. I then did a search on states that you can register your vehicle and found out that the state your living in requires the vehicle to be registered in the state, normally within 30 days Edit: when I typed that I made all of the states on their own line...now they're jumbled up, wtf!?

Actually, I've found that it is illegal to put your front plate in the windshield. And, in some cases, it's illegal to move it to a different spot on the front of the car. This is all IL law, though. But, the bottom of the plate must be atleast 5 inches off the ground. I had my plate bolted to the black plastic piece under the front of the car. But, moved it back yesterday when I found out about the 5 inch law. http://blogs.suburbanchicagonews.com..._mounting.html

Why don't you just use zip ties to hold the plate on and take it off easily when you want to. I can feel your pain on not wanting to have a front plate, but its better than getting extra attention from the cops.

My thing is... I'm about to paint my car and install an SLP grill, and I don't plan on ever adding a front plate again.
I know you're supposed to have your registration changed within 30 days of moving to a new state... but I'd love to see them prove that I've been here for that long!

I'm curious though about registering a car in another state....won't you have to get it inspected in that state? When I moved here from PA in 2001 I couldnt keep my car registered there and had to change it to VA. Most states require you to register it within 30 days. Also insurance creates a problem I believe if it's registered in another state yet you reside and drive it in another. I could be wrong but my insurance in PA wouldnt insure it here in VA back then.

It depends on the state and county that you register your car in. Some county require an inspection or an emissions check, while some don't require anything. The cops really don't have any way to prove how long you have lived there unless the same cop sees you for more than 30 days and wants to be a d!ck, then its your word against his.

No front is illegal in MD but my Mom has been driving without one for like 2 weeks, and she works on base and whatnot. I guess they aren't strict about it here, so I just took mine off today.
But I did put it in my windshield just incase, because all you need to say is the plate hold came loose and it needs to sit there temporarily, til you fix, they'll warn you, but no ticket.

Va of course requires a front tag but like the above poster and his mom I don't run one either and never have. I've been here since 2001 and have been pulled over for it though 3x in those 7yrs. Funny though each time I was pulled over for speeding..only 3x also... and once just for nothing I didnt get a ticket for not having a front plate.
