keep it in D, its going to run how its supposed to that way and should be a little quicker than if you tried just going with it as 3rd being the highest.
You should also see slightly slower times trying to manually shift it, I did it to see on my stock car.

Had this problem earlier in the spring with my sons car.Went to the track and it kept hitting the rev limiter from first to second.Took it back to Speedink had the shift points lowered to shift earlier, went back to the track and it still was shifting too late hitting the limiter.Called Larry at Speed and he asked if we had it in drive or od.Long story cut short!!!!! If its tuned in od,then race in od,If its tuned in 3,then race in 3.It needs to be in the gear that it was tuned on the dyno,or its not going to shift correctly.

its better to race in D because the low reverse clutches come on along with the low roller clutch and help support the load instead of the weak low roller taking the load, also the overrun clutches come on in the input drum to help support the forward sprag. in OD range these clutches do not come on. basically you have more holding power in manual ranges. with the exception of 2nd the ovverun clutches will go off and then come back on in 3rd

with any car the more support you give the low roller and the forward sprag the stronger it is in fist gear OD range the forward clutches are applied as well as the forward sprag holding and the low roller clutch holding. in manual range 1st the overrun clutches come on which do the same thing as the forward sprag and the low reverse clutches come on which will do the same thing as the low roller. for instance ever here of someone breaking a sprag but they were able to manual shift it home? this is the reason because these clutches were coming on and doing the same job as the broken part.
