just rebuilt it and no 1st gear in 3 or 4
so yeah i think its a valce body issue im actally bout to tear it apart as i type
basicly 1st and 2cd are fine but no no movement in 3-4 unless i shift back into 3 or 4 after going through 1st and 2cd gears. it drove normal for a bout 30 miles then this happend maybe a sticky valve?

read those posts and replaced that sprag with a truck one that had a brace on it like i said this happened out of no where, i think a valve body issue might be it
mainly trying figure out what valves control first gear with the gear selector in 3/4

i read your post did your trans act up when you first started driving or after a little while?
and i have 3 and 4 i just have to shift manually kinda weird

not my trans.. the forward sprag has to be engaged in forward gears if it is backwards or broken you will not have forward motion in OD range however if you pull it down to m1 it will move due to the ovverun clutches coming on in M1 and doing the same job as the questionable forward sprag seeing that you have 4th gear I would say its not in backwards or it is broken in 4th the sorag has to ovverun if its in backwards it will lock in 4th and cause one of those WTF moments. I would suggest that its broken based off what you say.

I have a broken sprag,broke in July of 09 during a dragstrip run. I have a couple 4L60Es' I picked up here from the for sale forums. Hopefully this spring I'll put one in. I've been driving it since the break,16 months now,just have to drive it as a manual,1>2>3>4. Starting out in position of 3 or 4 has no gear,just like a neutral position. I 'granny' drive it in 3rd and 4th,torque convertor locks up fine and just got to remember to manually downshift too. I still use it for 'cruising' and travelling,even took a trip to Orlando from Cleveland in Nov. of 2010. Just gotta remember how to drive it until it's replaced.

well ok thats exactly how mine is going ill end up in a couple weeks putting a sprag in it next time i have a sat off and a rach at work to do it on thanks for the info
